Hey everyone it's ADOPT A RABBIT month....so if you or anyone you know is looking for an excellent companion think of a rabbit. There are tons of rabbits in shelters and rescues and rabbits are often over looked because people don't know what great house pets they can make.... And if you have the room you can foster...wish i could!

Good idea. Wish I had the room. Someday, when my current generation of rodentia passes over the Rainbow Bridge.

Welcome, Celestial.
Listen up everyone here in Lagomorphs. . . there is a SMALL chance I may rescue a rabbit (three months old and female) within the week. If any of you know some basic information that would help me make a decision, and then better care for the rabbit, please let me know ASAP. For example, I have learned females have to be spayed, but when? What is the typical cost?
Thanks.

BTW, I will likely adopt/rescue a three month old rabbit from a yard sale this weekend. I've mentioned all this before. More updates, with photos, as they come. Her current name is. . . "Poopy". Should I keep that name, or rename her something "nicer"??

Maybe we should wait until I post photos, and get to know her personality.
(I wonder where the owner was yesterday. I'll try later today, but only to talk; I can't pickup the rabbit before Sunday).
I got a big wooden chew block, and salt lick, today.
What are "oats and groats" about and for?

I left the bunny some chew wood things today; she had none in her tank in the basement. I'll pick her up in a day or two. She enjoys being stroked and seems to like attention. I was told another potential owner expressed interst in her, but I got there first.

DF, From some quick research www.rabbit.org (good site). Oats and oat groat isn't needed, this is more for abandoned bunnies at a few weeks of age. I have never came across oat or oat groat, never told to give it to mine. Hay, vaggies and pellets are the most important part of thier diet. Cognac

My 3'x4" triple level cage is cleaned and ready, complete with carpeting on the second and third levels.
Now to add one bunny later today. . . the poor thing was stuck in a 20 gallon tank all this time.

just a note...some rabbits will dig and chew carpet even a low pile kind. Just make sure you watch her. Digging is ok in her cage, but she could ingest the fibers and that can be fatal. so just keep an eye on her. If she starts chewing the carpet you may want to replace it with sea grass mats or those outdoor ones i told you about. remember always that rabbits can't vomit and so things that can't be digested like hair and string can just sit in balls in the tummy...high fiber diet helps too....lots of different hay is a treat. kim
