It didn't start out as a happy story though. My Friend Kristina had told me about the loose/wild domestic bunnies down at her barn, and one day she found a baby one on the floor of their riding arena. The cat was playing with it, so she shooed the cat away and took in the poor baby bunny, calling me right away. That evening she went down to the barn to feed her horse and found the cat had 3 more baby bunnies on the arena floor, one was dead and well not pretty. She took the other two in. She found the bunny's nest (the cat was in it looking for more bunnies), something had dug up the den. Kristina started hand feeding them, knowing that raising orphand bunnies so young usualy didn't work out As it is very ahrd to do without their mothers milk. The next day the first bunny she found had died, the way he was we believe he died of shock from being tormented by the cat. A few days later the second baby died also. Kristina did everything she could for those bunnies, and we prayed for the next one to be stronger then the others..... and well he was. Here is the little fella a couple days after she found him... All her hard work was paying off, he was growing, and eating up a storm! The little guy is now 2 months old, has perfect litter habbits, sleeps with her in her bed and is just a little bundle of joy! She worked so hard to help this little guy, and it's paid off he's one happy healthy little bunny. ;D

Good for him, and good for her. And this is yet another reason why I don't like housecats being allowed to roam loose unattended.

Aww, what a cute bunny! That's great that your friend rescued him.
I remember one time our neighbor's cat, Pickles, was playing with something and Josh went to check it out. It was a baby bunny! Josh pried it out of Pickles's mouth twice before we sent little Patch on his way in a safe area. He was all brown, save for the little white patch on his head, hence his name.

Well the cat was doing it's job, it's a barn cat and it's suposed to keep the rat/mouse population down in the barn, a little bunny is the same size unfortunetly Hamster82, the white spot on the head is something almost all bunnies are born with, cool eh? It fades away as they grow up, and I'm not sure the reason why they have it. So far I have seen this spot on Black & Brown baby bunnies.

He's so pretty! What is his name? Ebony comes to mind, or Licorice, or Onyx.

>> sleeps with her in her bed << How does that work? No fears of her being rolled over on; no poop issues; no fear from the bunny? My Poppy would surely eventually want to go off somewhere "safe" and hide!

He has the run of her room, and while she is in bed he hops on and sleeps, she's ony ever found 1 stray poop. I'm not sure if she goes to sleep with him their or not, btu she has a big bed, plently of room

I know someone who slept with an iguana. She is a reptile lover.
Maybe I should let my Poppy out more, but all he does when I do is hide. I guess he comes out when it is dark and I am asleep. It worries me though, him maybe getting in trouble. Advice? Maybe let him roam around (and gide) as much as he wants in hopes he will get more confident and come out more? As a young bun (4, 5 months old) he attacheed himself to my foot alot, and sometimes darted about the apartment at fast speeds. I wish he'd do that again.

As a young bun (4, 5 months old) he attacheed himself to my foot alot, and sometimes darted about the apartment at fast speeds. I wish he'd do that again. I could not imagine having a reptile sleeping in my bed (yick). LOL I have found to win a rabbits heart, you go through their stomach TREATS TREATS TEATS! lol Jackpot is a bit of a scardy cat, I belive he has bad eyesite so that makes him more cautious of things. He never let me pet him before, but that last few weeks he does, and even comes out of his house to see me. So i give him a treat and some pets and he's happy (And so am i) I use dried fruits & those "Auntie Em's" cookeis as treats mostly, but I also have some yogert drops and crunchy carrot cookies as treats. Dried fruits i used are Cranberries (#1), Papaya, Apple and sometimes appricot and on ocassion if i'm eating them Banana chips I'll elt them have a nibble, I belive they use sugar when dehydrating them though, so i try not to give very many. My Bunnies come out and get the run of my livingroom, so i have to block off shelves and such so they don't chew them. I still have to supervise them b/c they will get into trouble if I'm nto aroud, bo eats my leather couch and and table legs. When I 'bond' with my bunnies I usually lye down on the floor with them, they check me out, get treats and climb all over me. Bo & Ani's cage is big enough (and clean enough) that i can sit in it with them and groom/pet them and read a book. I also let them outside in a pen to play, and there to, i sit in it with the bunnies and read. My neighbours think i'm a bit nuts sitting in a large pen outside with my rabbits, but i enjoy it and so do the bunnies. I had some friends over a couple weekends ago, I had Bo & Ani in the livingroom and they kept sniffing the new people, climbing up on their laps looking for treats and pets, it was so cute. They've never been that friendly with strangers before, but it shows how comfortable they are now with people. I am such a bunny lover now, i even dream of petting andf playing with bunnies LOL.

They are very calm to react that way to newcomers.
Thanks for the info. Getting down with them surely seems a great idea.
How much "out" time do they get each day, and how much time playing with you?
The problem when you do animal rescues is that although they are safe, time can be limited for bonding purposes.

The problem when you do animal rescues is that although they are safe, time can be limited for bonding purposes. Isn't that the truth I get younger people who say "your so lucky having so many animals, i'm jelous". But they just don't understand, it's allot of work, time and money and though it can be very enjoyable I don't get the 1 on 1 time with some of the animals as I would like. I spend more time with the bunnies then the other critters. I feed them twice a day, and then before bed everyone get's a pet and a treat Yesterday i was out so no bunnies had time out. But I usually have them out in the evenings, So anywhere from 1 hours to 6. When we are outside in the yard it's usually 1 hour or 2. When i have one pair of bunnies upstairs I will have the other in the 'bunny/dog" room downastairs. Baby & Jackpot don't get as long of time out, they get up to 4 hours, but usualy closer to two, only b/c of Baby's very bad litter habbits (Or lack of) I can't keep him out to long upstairs b/c he will pee everywhere While Bo & Ani have very good litter habbits and can be out with me for most of the day.

Well, I can let Poppy loose, but he will hide - and come out when I am not there, which is not good as he can't be supervised. He never poops anywhere but his tray, though.
Today Heather my tiel got an hour's worth of attention. Maybe I can squeeze in another hour for somebody later.

Your bunnies are very lucky, that's for sure! It's great that you spend so much time with them. And if Baby only understood that he'd have more "out" time if he restrained himself. . .
DF, I'm sure Poppy appreciates whatever time you are able to give.

Unsweetened banana chips are available. I buy them in preference to the sweetened ones.
