I got the tank topper from my rescue confrere, Susan, and I got the wheel from Andrea? No, Robin!! There are six Spiny Mice in that 10 gallon tank, and when they think no one is looking they explore and forage on the other levels.

That is alfalfa and T-hay on the upper levels. I put it there for them to forage and eat, and so that I can sprinkle food on it without the food falling all the way down.
The hamster-sized house is very cozy for six closely-bonded Spiny females.

I ever tell you about in Jan. of 2003 my new hamster, Rainy, had a litter of 12? I asked for advice online, and people said to "keep them!". And some put their money wear their mouths were: I just have gotten over $350 worth of stuff in the mail including two complete Habitrails with many add ons and tubes, and expensive painted ceramic logs. It was then I realized animal people are the best people. All that stuff is still in use - Spiny mice in the Habitrails. Rainy and her litter are in my Memorial Gallery in my sig, now. But they lived safe lives here.

Very nice habitat! I like the set up.
I have a purple silent spinner your welcome to it... it's broken just like the red one, and the green one LOL .. Silent spinners and gerbils just do not go together.

Silent spinners and gerbils just do not go together. I sent you a PM on this: The Silent Spinner I bought today I immediately reinforced with a gob of epoxe glue on the yellow hub thing, making sure I didn't clog the holes for the metal stand nor prevent spinning. The purple one has that and did since I got it - and that is why it is still working! The glue prevents it cracking in that same place it usually cracks in eventually - more quickly with Syrians.

My little guy is lightweight, so I haven't had the hub cracking problems you describe, but I did have to take the colored and white sections of the wheel apart from each other and Super-glue them back together, because the two pieces were loosening up from each other and causing a significant "un-silence." I actually bought a second wheel when the first one became noisy, not realizing what the problem was, and within a month or two, the second one sounded like the first. Maybe the loosening was caused by the need to clean the wheel daily because it doubles as a bathroom? All I know is that the glue job has survived much cleaning, and the silence is golden!

Oh yea. That has happened too. It is so minor I forgot about it. A drop of Krazy Glue in four places solves that problem. The dwarfs use theirs the most to poop in, and that seems typical for dwarfs; they love pooping in tubes too - why I moved them out of the Habitrail setup. But it is very silent when operating properly. I have to have it that way as one is a yard from my head when I sleep. The only problem is the gerbils often bury it in bedding.

Fuzz is about a yard from my head too. The sound I do hear is comforting--I know that he is happily running away. . .

Fuzz is about a yard from my head too. The sound I do hear is comforting--I know that he is happily running away. . . Wow. I mentioned this to Kate several days ago. . . I went to sleep and in the dark I heard the rats walking around, several gerbil wheels turning, a few mice wheels spinning (including a silent hanging wheel in a Habitrail-mini), the finches making just a bit of noise. . . the parakeets and cockatiel were silent, and I knew in the living room there were wheels going like mad, and GPs and a rabbit elsewhere sleeping. . . and I felt very good about it all. Very COMFORTING! The noise wasn't much, but I put on wax and cotton earplugs anyway (very good) for at sunrise the birds would get a little noisy. I am pleased to see you also found it comforting to know a lot of critters were doing well in your care.

When my brother was staying here when we was in school, he always complained about the 'noise' of all the critters downstairs, It no longer bothers me, it's more normal now. But if i hear a new sound, then i get worried.
