The first photos and video have been taken of a live Laotian rock rat, a rare animal described in a scientific journal for the first time last year. It may be the only living species in its family, which scientists previously believed went extinct 11 million years ago. Here is the link for the article with photos included: www.rinr.fsu.edu/rockrat/

Oh cool, and yeah I remember you posting that, Tom. It's neat how they found him when he was supposed to be extinct for that long.
What's that one bird that resurfaced after people thought it went extinct, I think in the 1980's? Robin--do you know?

I think you're referring to the ivory-billed woodpecker--and there's still disagreement as to whether it was sighted. The pileated woodpecker resembles it, and the video of the sighting isn't very clear.

I didn't post that video link, though. That is new, and appreciated.

How can this be the only living specimen in exsistence. It takes two to tango doesn't it? Of course I am sure everyone knows that a recent photo was taken by satellite of a Tasmanian Tiger as well as the image of the pair of double lined cheetahs that were also thought to be extinct. There is a record where they were digging the subway system out in England in the late 40's and they broke into an old shale cave that was sealed off. When the wall was broken down a pterodactyl emerged, spread its wings and made a squawking noise and then died right after wards. It makes you wonder why they have not been able to get an image of the alleged yeti as of yet.

Remember that famous footage of the Sasquatch/Bigfoot from the 60s I think, it was walking away from the river and looking over it's shoulder? That was me Or should I say there have been times when I've been lumbering along, and I think, "in my mind I think I've seen this somewhere before..." and it's that footage. Must be kinetic memory or sumthin' L.

I assume the critter's mate has still not been caught.
As such. . . "Redfield and his hosts returned the animal safely to its rocky home after photographing and videotaping it."
No point in keeping the critter without a mate to breed with.
Hopefully, they are encouraging the locals to not hunt it perhaps by offering rewards of some kind.

Don't forget some animals can reproduce asexually. Some people actually do believe that the Tasmanian Tiger still exists although they went extinct in the 1940's in a zoo. You guys forgot about the Jersey Devil, and the Lockness Monster. Oh and thanks Robin--yes I was thinking of that kind of bird.

Loch Ness sp The Bronx Zoo has a section in its big aviary exhibit devoted only to birds that have gone extinct owing to what people have done - scores and scores of extinct birds are shown. Jersey Devil - once the subject of an "X-Files" episode. Anyone miss the "X-Files"? BTW, rodents do not reproduce asexually! ;D

That's what my Mom said when I told her, but I figured I'd just put it anyway. Lock Ness...right! Got it. Josh (my brother) went to the Pine Barrens with his friend. He said it wasn't that scary and they went at night. I think that'd be cool to go there, just to check it out. I don't believe in the Jersey Devil anyway.

"Loch" is Scottish (Gaelic) for "lake".

What about Martin Brodeur?? ;D
You are more likely to meet Mafiosos in the Pine Barrens burying bodies than anything else!
