I left at 10:35 PM. I guess I missed the non-sporting group last night. But after being there for 13 1/2 hours I had enough and was too tired to stay. Oh well. With a fourth group the show would have easily gone beyond 11 PM. It started at 8. Most people left after the third group. Remember, when I got home I had to spend 90 minutes tending to all my own animals, plus the trip home was well over an hour. I can only do so much. BILL COSBY'S DOG WON!!!BILL COSBY A DOG STAR HIS POOCH WINS MSG TERRIER WAR By DAN KADISON and ERIC LENKOWITZ February 13, 2007 -- Bill Cosby has been one of TV's top dogs - and now his dog is top terrier. Cosby's canine, Harry, won the popular terrier group at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden last night and is one of the favorites to be named Best in Show tonight. "This is my 'Boo'!" Cosby's jubilant daughter Erinn shouted after she hugged the judge and kissed the dog on the mouth. "It's stupendous! I am very proud. I'm just so proud." Her TV-star dad, who co-owns 6-year-old Harry, was not at the Garden to see the Dandie Dinmont breed of terrier take top prize. "Mr. Cosby thinks he has bad luck in New York," the pooch's handler Bill McFadden said. But Erinn, 40, said she called her father with the good news last night, coyly adding, "I'm not saying anything about where he'll be tomorrow." Judge Richard Meen called the smoky-colored dog, with a gray mane and a white afro, "The epitome of the breed standard." Harry easily won Best of Breed earlier in the day as the lone Dandie Dinmont entrant, but then won the entire terrier group - considered one of the toughest in the show. Cosby wasn't the only celebrity who went to the dogs at the Garden yesterday. Domestic diva Martha Stewart and newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst were both on hand earlier in the day to cheer on Wishbone, a French bulldog. Westminster is "the No. 1 show," Hearst said. "The prestige is incomparable. Everybody wants their dog here if they show." Both Stewart and Hearst have connections to Wishbone's handler, Jodi Longmire, who guided the pooch to a Best in Breed win. But Wishbone got the short end of the stick in last night's nonsporting group category, losing out to Remy, a standard poodle ranked No. 1 in the world. A toy poodle, Vikki, took top honors in the toy group, while Macey, a 3-year-old Akita, was the winner in the working group. "I'm very surprised," said Laurie Jordan-Fenner, her handler "I wanted to make the cut. Everything else is icing on the cake." In all, there are 2,628 entries at Westminster, but one dog not there also received a lot of attention. She's Vivi, a 3-year-old whippet who ran away at Kennedy Airport after last year's show. Vivi, last seen bounding toward the marshes surrounding the airport, has never been found. LINK

For tonight:
Sporting-English Springer Spaniel Hounds-Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen (or PBGV) Herding-Bouvier Des Flounders
And the winner, or Best in Show is......
English Springer Spaniel
Not bad I guess. Wishing it was the Akita or PBGV, but the Springer isn't a bad looking dog. Congrats James for 2007!

James is the name of the Springer who won today. And a PBGV is part of the hound group, small-brown/white. Wire coat, I'd show you a picture but Josh is downloading something and our computer is slow enough as it is.

I too had never heard of a PBGV!
Poor Vivi--hope she found a new loving home somehow after leading the life of a stray.

I thought at first you meant 'Rasputin' here at RR whose name is indeed James! ;D

PBGV: better-looking than the Dandie Dinmont (sorry, Cos. . .). The paper I just read called the winner Diamond Jim, not James.

Sorry. James is the name of the English Springer Spaniel, not the PBGV.

This explains the different names--he's known by both!
From the NYTimes:
<James, also known as Ch. Felicity’s Diamond Jim, was not a surprise winner. He was ranked second in the country, based on the points he had accumulated in shows, just below the Dandie known as Harry. The toy poodle was ranked fifth, and the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen was ranked eighth, and the Akita was 10th.>

PUPPY LOVE: English springer spaniel Diamond Jim nuzzles handler Kellie Fitzgerald last night on his way to winning the Westminster Dog Club's Best in Show at Madison Square Garden. "There's no other<BR>feeling like it in the world," Fitzgerald said. >> 'DIAMOND' DOG SPARKLES TOP POOCH AT MSG By HASANI GITTENS and JENNIFER COOK February 14, 2007 -- There was just one American idol last night - a handsome Virginian with a great temperament, a ton of heart and now, the silver bowl awarded for Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Diamond Jim, a 6-year-old brown-and-white English springer spaniel from Fairfax, Va., jumped into handler Kellie Fitzgerald's arms after being picked top dog at Madison Square Garden. "There's no other feeling like it in the world," Fitzgerald said. Among the losers: Celebrity pooch Harry, a Dandie Dinmont terrier who belongs to comedian Bill Cosby. Diamond Jim - known as James - is co-owned by Tarissa and Allen Patton and Ruth Damoe, who said they knew they had a winner when he was just a pup. "He was perfectly marked," said Tarissa. "The total package includes disposition and smarts. He's the total package." Diamond Jim also is a certified therapy dog. "He has a sixth sense about people," Tarissa said. "He knows how to deal with Alzheimer's patients and he's all heart." Her husband said the Westminster win was "humbling." "We know there was a room full of people with the same aspirations and love for their dogs," he said. During the two-day show, more than 2,000 entries pranced around the ring to be winnowed down by breed (165 Best in Breeds) and then by group (seven Best in Groups) before the winning woofer is chosen. Diamond Jim not only beat out the Dandie Dinmont, he bested a pair of white poodles and a petit basset griffon vendeen, plus an Akita and a Bouvier des Flandres that pitted a husband and wife against each other. Larry Fenner handled the Bouvier and Laurie Jordan-Fenner guided the Akita. This was the 100th time that Best in Show was presented at Westminster, and the sixth time that an English springer spaniel won. For the top-dog contest, it's all about personality, experts say. Kim Fredericks, a handler, described the perfect canine competitor as "a dog that enjoys it, with a sparkling personality - like a model." "If they don't like it, it will show. And if they do like it, it will cause the dog to glow," she said. Cosby's run of bad luck on the green carpet of the Garden continued. He'd lost with several top dogs in the past, and avoided coming this time to stave off the jinx. << LINK

>> New York Daily News - www.nydailynews.comDiamond Jim one gem of a spaniel BY CHRISTINA BOYLE and BILL HUTCHINSON DAILY NEWS WRITERS Wednesday, February 14th, 2007 An English Springer Spaniel with a perky personality stole the show from funnyman Bill Cosby's pint-size terrier last night, taking the crown as Westminster Kennel Club champ. The brown-and-white pooch named James pranced his way to victory at Madison Square Garden, displaying a mix of poise and charisma that bow-wowed the house. "He's a fabulous dog," said Dr. Robert Indeglia, a Rhode Island cardiothoracic surgeon who judged James as best in show over the other six finalists. "He had that look in his eye that said, 'This is my night,' " Indeglia said of the dog from Delaware, whose full name is Felicity's Diamond Jim. His handler, Kellie Fitzgerald, said the champion canine showed true grit in the spotlight of the Super Bowl of dog shows. "I'm just over the moon," Fitzgerald said after the win. "He always gives me 110%, like he did tonight." As James savored his silver cup and the applause of his admirers, Cosby's Dandie Dinmont terrier, Harry, was taking his licks like a good sport. "I'm so proud of you," Cosby's daughter Erinn Cosby told the dog after the competition. "You had shoutouts. People were screaming." For James, the WKC title was his 51st best in show. Today, the 6-year-old will be treated to the life of a celebrity. The star will be chauffeured by limo to all of the morning TV talk shows and treated to a lunch.eon at Sardi's, the famous Theater District restaurant. James is the first English springer spaniel to win the top prize at Westminster since 2000, when the prize went to Samantha. Fitzgerald was also Samantha's handler. In the best in show event, Diamond Jim topped the Dandie Dinmont, a pair of white poodles and a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, plus an Akita and a Bouviers des Flandres that pitted a husband and wife against each other. Larry Fenner handled the Bouviers and Laurie Jordan-Fenner guided the Akita. "I wanted him to go out with a bang," Fitzgerald said. James will retire to Fairfax, Va., to become a therapy and obedience dog, she said. << LINK

Nothing to be confused about. James is the name of the Springer who won, his full name is what Robin said: Diamond Jim.
