>>I am wondering what that looked like.<< It looked like a normal gum line, only you could faintly see the roots of my teeth through my gums.

Ha ha, not like that! It's hard to explain. I don't know how I would get pictures of it, either. If you guys want I can post the picture of me being goofy that you can see the graft in, but I don't know the rules about posting pictures of faces. I don't see why not, as I'm not a minor, but eh, it's up to you guys.

Men tend to get rosacea around the nose, and if it's not treated the nose becomes red, bumpy, and bulbous.
In my case I had a lot of telangiactasia (swollen tiny blood vessels) under the skin, giving me a bright red nose and moustache. I had to glop on the makeup. It was horrible. So I plunked down the money and got it treated. Black and blue marks on my face for a week from the laser--I looked like a victim of domestic violence! But it was worth it. I am not a makeup person, so this made me free again, so to speak. I still have problems, but not to the same extent.
Sun exposure can cause/exacerbate rosacea--one more reason to wear sunscreen. SPF30 goes on my face every morning.

Ouch, my Mom had skin grafting done. Just loads of oral surgery here for me, and more to come. Robin, I hope you don't mind me asking but what's rosacea? I'm sorry you have something. I look at my students' teeth and they always look perfect. I guess I thought people of your generation didn't have problems, what with the advances in dental care (sealants, better braces, etc.). I have all kinds of things, Katie. I'm broken down at 45. My brother is so right. I was put together late in the day on a Friday. In the last 2 weeks I have had three doctor appointments each week. This coming week I have three as well. Some deferred maintenance, some routine maintenance, some for treatment of an acute problem. Thank God for health insurance. If I ever lost it, no one would ever insure me, or else what I'd pay would be through the roof.

I have no health problems and feel pretty good, even though I have been so busy I know I need to eat better, and I stopped going to the gym for time reasons three months ago. Picked up some weight. May resume the gym soon.. Of course you all know about my teeth issues. The bane of my existence. Dezzi, post any photos you want, so long as they are above the equator. ;D >> giving me a bright red nose and moustache << Was your moustache also bright red? Like Yosemite Sam?

Aw, I'm sorry. I hope you feel better within time, my Mom would know how you feel since she's still young (50's is young) and has to go to the doctor too for a lot. And I'm sure someone would help you pay if you lost your insurance, don't say things like that. I bet a bunch of people care about you; I do and I only know you by internet!

I'm glad I don't have to worry about that! You should move to Canada.

Socialized medicine's good, and bad, points could be the subject of a thread.

>> giving me a bright red nose and moustache << Was your moustache also bright red? Like Yosemite Sam? The moustache was a "moustache" of telangiactasia (the swollen tiny blood vessels). Imagine red marks from the sides of the nose down to the mouth that never went away. It made me VERY self-conscious. I had to do something about it. Sheesh--how did we get here? This is a RODENT forum, not a cosmetic surgery forum! ;D

A Fu Manchu effect. You couldn't cover it with makeup?
All discussions take a meandering path: rodents to anywhere!

It started with me mentioning Megs, then discussion took a turn for the worse when we mentioned the cropping and docking of tails and ears, and that's how it got onto plastic surgery.

Oh yea! I remember as a nine and ten year old kid listening to my parents when they visited an old Great Aunt. I was fascinated to figure out how and why the long conversations took their strange paths. I did not say a word, but I listened closely. I was very precocious! And well-behaved.
