Well, you might assume from my question that, yes, I AM considering getting more rats ;D I'm still not sure. Especially with the ongoing business with the cat (not sure if I told you guys he's now on sub-Q fluids. It's been a real challenge and I'm so stressed out. The vet never mentioned cost when she told me he'd have to go on them...she probably assumed (rightly) that I'd shell out the $100 per month for the fluids ) Anyway, I digress...
I put the shelves back in the cage to give Locutus back his "normal" home. It took him a few days to figure out they were there again! He's become much more human-friendly, as I guess he's really missing the attention of a fellow rat. He's kind of knocking around in the big cage, and I know he'd probably really like a friend...or friends. If I get more I'll opt for 3 at a time, rather than 2.
There would be the (oh no!) introductions and eventually communal living. This (chincilla) cage is great, but it's starting so show some rust at the seams, which the boys never showed an interest in, happily. My favourite cages have always been the SuperPet ones. They were in one for a short while when I got them, but they quickly chewed the plastic pan...and it wasn't as big as this cage.
Finally, my question. What luck have you had with rats in SP cages? Has anyone had to use a modification to prevent escape? I think I've hear that people will remove the bottom pan and sit the cage IN a pan, plastic or otherwise -- by doing that, the bars are *inside* the pan, not sitting on top of it, where it's exposed. The cage I had wasn't tall enough to do this.
Anyone using a SP for rats?
