Ooops, I meant Sugar Land! I was suffering from a lapse of Aggie-itis! Sounds like Friendly Friendswood! I never felt comfortable when men opened doors, so I like the typical NY style of men's etiquette. Recently a guy tried to help me with my coat, and I didn't know what he was doing, because it had been so long since anybody had done it. Sugar Loaf; Sugar Land; it's all too sweet for me. Ever play Candyland as a kid? My first game! Any female with an 'Ms' gets to put on her own coat. Once knew a female who from date one paid half of all the bills; she always paid her way. Knew another who resented me opening doors for her. Knew another who after five dates when I suggested that a little fiscal reciprocity in the relationship would be nice. . . vanished! Poof. Too bad I didn't say that earlier.

I was checking some of the other sites I asked about pine cones on and the general feeling is baking them in a microwave might help. But this was the funniest: >> I thought of that too but it might be dangerous for hamsters, i just throw them at mates. <<

That was one of the chores my sister and I had as kids - cleaning up the pine cones in the yard before my dad mowed the grass. We did have to wear gloves - the brown ones aren't a problem but the green ones....We never tried throwing them at each other, but I almost got beaned by a squirrel once.

I saw your post over at PetsHub........you are Zouave right? LOL!
I think oven would be better because I have heard microwaves don't actually kill germs.
Calvinator, your comment about squirrels reminds of my silly dog Zena. There a several squirrels living on our complex. Well, Zena thinks the squirrels are there only for her to chase up trees. the other day she chased one up it a tree and when the squirrel reached a limb it caused a pine cone to fall off and plonk Zena on the head. Terrified her senseless......she went running off yipping and tail tucked between her legs. It was so funny! Alas! Zena still is trying to chase those poor squirrels.

Yea, that's me. Seems to me it is time for a leash for Zena. In NYC, it is illegal for one animal to be allowed to harass other animals, and for dogs to be off a leash, but that is in city parks. I have already related the time I saw two unleashed dogs kill a squirrel in NY's Central Park (5/9/02), and I berated the owner until he was on the street out of the park and then began contacting various officials at the police and Parks dept. I don't think I've been that angry since that day.

Here is the definitive word from Janet Morrow, head of the AGS, which I just received:
>> I know that gerbils love pine cones. There is little research on it, and they are allergic to pine bedding. I have in the past given mine some for an occasional chew treat, but I would not give them pine cones on a regular basis. <<
