I feel it is time to move on and continue with the rare dogs. We're on C now and that's the Cao de Serra de Aires from Portugal. They're animated, stubborn, and loyal. Here they are: www.dogbreedinfo.com/caodaserradeaires.htm

They have mountains in Portugal?? I guess. Small ones.
Interesting looking chest on that dog.
Read this?
>> A legend associated with the mountain is mentioned in chapter 41 of the American literary classic, Moby-Dick:
"... the prodigies related in old times of the inland Strello mountain in Portugal (near whose top there was said to be a lake in which the wrecks of ships floated up to the surface)..." <<
Two thousand year old history! Fascinating.
The photo of the dog on Wiki compared to your avatar looks quite different. Not so?

I saw but it's the same dog. It just has a lighter coat. So now this week is the fierce looking Fila Brasileiro from Brazil and he's friendly, aware, and aggressive with certain strangers. Here's what they look like: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fila_Brasileiro

Saw on PBS a few days ago a genetics piece about dogs. All humans are descended from ONE female, in central east Africa. Apparently, dogs are all descended if not from one bitch (!) from one single small area in eastern Asia, based on genetic testing. They did not get developed, bred, in various locales. >> Some will never warm up to any stranger. Some bloodlines have less temperament than others and might accept a stranger if introduced properly by the owner, but it should never be assumed that every Fila can be trained to accept strangers. They are known to play very well with children and take a great deal of "abuse" from them, as long as they are family. << Interesting. Is Wiki the only source on this dog? Ah! Some bloodhound in there! Hence, the skin. >> they are also excellent tracking dogs and were used to track Brazilian slaves and fugitives. << Charming. And German Shepherds hunted Jews and other undesirables in Nazi territories. Don't blame the dog! You see THIS?? >> In fact, In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of Baskervilles, there is reason to believe this is the hound. << >> n the United Kingdom ,Israel and the Australian city of Brisbane it is illegal to own any of these dogs without specific exemption from a court. << So what happened in Brisbane??

All humans are descended from ONE female, in central east Africa. ^According to the Bible, we're all descended from Adam and Eve. Apparently, dogs are all descended if not from one bitch (!) from one single small area in eastern Asia, based on genetic testing. ^They say all dogs are descended from the wolf. I just heard that some could be related to the fox...well they are part of the canidae family. Is Wiki the only source on this dog? ^No. One can find other info on the Fila, I just choose the one I think is the best description of the breed. Like what I'll be doing for this week's breed. You see THIS?? >> In fact, In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of Baskervilles, there is reason to believe this is the hound. << ^That's very interesting. I've always wondered what type of dog they used in the movies. And so this week's dog (since I may not be on tomorrow) is the German Pinscher and he's from Germany. He's alert, friendly, and not squeamish. Here they are: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Pinscher

I am not sure how that Wiki article came to the conclusion that was the type of dog in "Hound of the Baskervilles". Good guess, though. >> He's alert, friendly, and not squeamish. << Not squeamish? He can watch "Saw V" with no problems? >> There are also a few colors for this breed that became extinct during the world wars of the twentieth century. << Extinct? Oh. The article explains this. Sounds like a charming temperament. >> until 1836 when this breed surpassed the Mops in popularity. << "Mops"?

Extinct? ^Lots of breeds or breed colors probably went extinct as people bred them out of the dog for some reasons. "Mops"? ^I don't know what dog would be called a mop as I've never heard of it before, but if I had to guess I would say the Komondor. I've heard some people say "they look as if they could mop up a floor." This week (as I may be on a short time tomorrow) is the lovely Hovawart from Germany. They're good natured, protective, and playful. Here they are right here: www.dogbreedinfo.com/hovawart.htm

Huge fluffy tail!! Needs a firm master, I see! Sweet looking but could be hard to handle? >> Remaining playful and puppy-like in its old age. << That is very nice.

I'll be on a bit tomorrow, but not as much. So here is the next dog for the next week coming up in two hours according to my clock. He's the beautiful Icelandic Sheepdog. He's, obviously, from Iceland and is affectionate, a barker, and is stubborn. This is him right here: www.dogbreedinfo.com/icelandicsheepdog.htm

A spitz!! I thought so! Reminded me at once of the gorgeous Finnish Spitz. As opposed to Mark Spitz. ;D
I never realized there were that many sheep in Iceland; I figured the land would not support enough grazing.
>> he Icelandic Sheepdog is cheerful, friendly, inquisitive, playful and unafraid. Most adore children and get alone well with other dogs and pets. <<
Nice.
>> "home alone anxiety" <<
Not for apartments!
>> It was brought to Iceland with the first Viking settlers (AD 874 - 930) <<
So can't it also be found in Norway or Denmark?
