Well this week is still a rare dog, but now he'll get more recognition since he's in the AKC. He's the Tibetan Mastiff from Tibet and they're thoughtful, loyal, and stubborn. This is them: www.dogbreedinfo.com/tibetanmastiff.htmNow this is a rarity, even for myself! I've never ever seen a white Tibetan Mastiff, don't believe me? Click here: aa.aiao.cn/600/pic/03.jpg

Is that a genetic issue?? I mean a potentially bad one?
This is the type of dog I see that indeed might need a pack leader; to wit, the human. Obviously, there are many variations and different dogs with different needs. The two dogs look different in the amount of fur - the white seems to have much more.

Some dogs just have that white gene in them. Like Boxers, rarely does anyone see them white, yet I have at the kennel I used to work for. Some breeds have the blue merle gene in them which you never see that breed have, like a Collie or Sheltie. So it can happen. Tibetan Mastiffs have a lot of fur! The white one looks no different than a black and tan one. And this week is the Utonagan Dog and he's from England and is a companion, family dog, but likes to howl a lot. This is them: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utonagan and here is a picture of them: www.k9magazine.com/viewarticle.php?sid=6&aid=533&vid=0&npage=

www.utonagan.com>> The Utonagan is not a guard dog, and will lick a stranger rather than bark at them. << Ew! Germs! >> * Saarlooswolfhond * Czechoslovakian Wolfdog * Wolfdog * Northern Inuit Dog * Tamaskan dog << You know those? The name reminds me of a famous actress and acting teacher, now deceased: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uta_HagenSo, where does the name come from?? Great dog; that and the Finnish Spitz are faves of mine. ,

I'm not sure where the dog's name come from; I'm sure some website tells it. I remember when my Grandmom asked if there were any dogs from Italy, well this one is. He's the Volpino Italiano and they're a good watchdog, affectionate, and are good-natured. This is them, aren't they pretty?: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volpino_Italiano

Volpino Italiano. Sounds like a race car. VROOOM! >> Spitz-type dogs were found throughout the ancient world. Specimens from this group have been found preserved in European peat bogs which anthropologists trace to 4000 BC. The remains—with curly tails, foxy heads, and small erect ears—have been found dating back over 5,000 years. These little pets wore decorative ivory bracelets and collars << Gotta dress up! >> volpino means little fox in Italian. << Italian spitz! Remember Mark Spitz, the Olympic swimmer? >> Its job was to alert the large mastiffs to an intruder. << Were the mastiffs sleeping?? "Hey big guys, got a problem here!". Shedding in the house might be a problem.

>> Hound is found in the southern region of the former Yugoslavia. << Are they trying to say Serbia?? Wonder if they are common there. >> Like most mammals, dogs are dichromats and have color vision equivalent to red-green color blindness in humans. << Cats too? So they see blue??

>> They're from Switzerland <<
I could figure that out as they have the same coloring as the Bernese and Swiss mountain dogs! How come??
BTW. . . that is a weird Alpo flash ad at the bottom of that page.
