I mentioned this new fellow before. I found him alone in a small nearly bare tank; he is now happy in a twenty gallon with friends. His name is Edan. I am not sure of the color. Thoughts on that? Schimmel? Another argent cream?

BTW, you might recall this is the guy who when I first held him his ears folded back, his eyes rolled and closed, and. . . he passed out!! I put him down fearing I scared him to death - but he recovered in a few minutes. Hmm. the worker at the pet store who was solicitous of him was a blonde female, so maybe he had an aversion to guys. When I get confirmation of his color I'll let you know.

I am being reliably told he is another DEH. . . but with a lightening gene, and that is whay he is indeed a lot different in color from Romulus and Remus (see other thread), and why his nails are clear. I had no idea.

You must be a gerbil expert! Edan passed away a long time ago. But tell us how a "pied argente" would be different from a DEH with a lightening gene, please.

Argente has ruby eyes. I'd like to see another picture. I would maybe even guess pied light nutmeg with a schimmel gene. I find the pied DEH (Honey cream) seem to lighten out allot (See the picture of Carlo).

There would be no way that is a Pied DEH only because the coat is lightened my th Spotting gene. Here's a Pic of my Pied DEH its hard to tell by that picture if he's a pied Agrente or a light pied nutmeg with the schimmel gene. Do you perhaps have any more pictures??

I would really like to see a couple more pictures, as i can think DEH with the redness of the head, but i'll show u why i think Lt spotted nutty, This is my young pied/mottled nutmeg (Solara) She is still young and has allot of dark ticking, The next picture is of her father Gumba, he is a lt. pied (DP) nutmeg, This is an old picture, when I still owned him (He went to my breeder friend), he was just over a year or so. He is now almost 3 and has NO dark ticking what so ever. Though he still has his dark patch (DP). So if we look at the head of your gerbil, the head of gumba and now the head of my pied DEH 'carlo' you can see the difference in colour...

Edan's eyes were very dark with no discernible touch of ruby. His scrotum was also quite dark even black. I have no time now to search for old photos. Maybe tomorrow.

Here's a Pic of my Pied DEH What are his genetics? To me he looks like a looks champagne, because of the grey tail. Very cute little fella BTW

>> What are his genetics? << The pet store did not sell him with an AGS pedigree! Edan died Christmas Eve of last year.

I was asking leiliasaidyes about the gerbil she posted....
Christmas eve, that's aweful. Porche who I lost this year, she had her first seizure Christmas eve when my Mom had put her back in the tank. She was just a tiny baby, and my poor mother thought she had killed her! So that night the Momma gerbil & Pups spent Christmas eve celebrating in the livingroom with us, so we could keep an eye on them. I miss that girl, she was such a gem.
