This is not a digicam, so I don't have a lot of options. The next roll will have me trying indoor lighting at more of a distance, and playing with flash/no flash. But that will be in a few days. No time right now. I too am fighting a cold and need to get to bed soon. . . That is original Carefresh, lightened (along with Jayde) by the flash. Have never bought the white or colored stuff--why pay more? It's interesting having a critter in the house again. I have someone to talk to!

I used to talk to myself. . . before I got Chrissie, Crystal, Phil, Dill, Cliffy, and Tommy (gerbs) late in July of 2002.
I think the time has come to cough up a C note for a digi cam. The biggest problem is finding it (they are so small).

Just had hot Ramen noodles. Had a chill caused by the cold. Does a lot of sodium suddenly ingested make one dizzy?

I don't know anything on coloring, sorry Robin, but I just wanted to say Jayde looks a lot (the way you're describing her) like Harriet and Theo, our dwarf hamsters. They were grey/white too, but Harriet was lighter than Theo was. Cute pictures of her, I like how she's looking up at you.

Just had hot Ramen noodles. Had a chill caused by the cold. Does a lot of sodium suddenly ingested make one dizzy? Sodium intake raises blood pressure as water from tissues enters the bloodstream to dilute the elevated ion content in the blood. One would be dizzy if blood pressure was low. So the NaCl doesn't explain it. Maybe just being sick does? I too have a cold now. It came on in the space of a half-hour as I sat here writing an exam yesterday afternoon. I could literally feel it invading my body. Yuck. Fluids, zinc lozenges, balm for the sore nose, lotion for the dry hands being washed so often. And serious sleep--tonight. But I have to get this exam done first! Bye!

I guess I was just sick.
There is a Zulu medicine common in health stores called Umcka (sp?). An extract of a type of crysanthemum (sp again?) plant. Supposedly it shortens colds.
There are other things that supposedly do that. I forget what they are. ?
Took sick to care about spellings!
Salubrious wishes.

Same to you--get well soon! Sounds like you could have been feverish. Are you sure it's a cold and not the flu? Today I am stuffy. Yesterday my nasal secretions were spontaneously running out my nose and dripping onto my papers before I could catch them. Yuck. And then there was trying to play with Jayde in the short window of time between needed nose blowings and hand-washings. It figured that she decided that she'd rather get cozy in the pocket of the old flannel fitted sheet she runs on and beautify herself. . . My colleague is going to loan me her digicam for the time being so that I can get some better shots of Jayde.

Maybe it IS the flu. *shrugs* Care to delineate the differences? Fed. gov't. "TAKE YOUR FLU SHOTS!". Unfortunately, the current shot is the wrong strain so it is useless. >> my nasal secretions were spontaneously running out my nose and dripping onto my papers before I could catch them. << Charming imagery! Stick wads of cotton in your nose! My sinuses are stuffy, if that means anything. Some lassitude. Nose slightly raw. This rarely happens. And I am certain I caught it first Dog Show day as I noticed slight symptoms Tuesday (hoarse throat). Just cleaned two big GP cages. Ugh. Also cleaned a third of Poppy's and her litter pan - she usually hits it! The hard part is with no elevator right now I have to lug three big heavy trash bags down seven flights (and out on the street) into the basement trash area. OMG. Pray it does not break.

Jaydee Girl (what I call her) is fine. Still nippy at unpredictable times, though. But so was Mal for a while. I moved her out of the CT2 today. Her pee habits were such that she peed at the bottom of the tube leading up to the petting zone, and the liquid would seep through the crack in the tube and drip disgustingly all over the place. So into the aquarium she went today. I will be getting her a bigger one soon. A gal who lives near my dad advertised two on Craigslist, and he will get them later this week and then get them to me (we will probably meet for dinner in Bordentown, which is about halfway between us). I will save one for Stacey. I discovered that Jayde doesn't like to play with spaghetti the way all my other hamsters did! She will eat it, but she won't fight with it. Bummer--that was funny, and I thought I'd be able to finally get a photo of it for you, Tom. Speaking of photos, I will be giving the camera back to my colleague so that her daughter can upload the photos I took, and so I will be getting digital photo files back from her soon. There will be some good Jayde photos there, for sure! She looks sooo different when she's not washed out by the flash.

I could have told you dwarfs always do this. That is why when I had them they left the Habitrail tubes. They love to pee and poop in tubes, unlike Syrians. *shrugs". Marking their territory?
A spagehtti fighting foto would be funny.
Flash. the last camera I had, a Nikon, consistently washed out when flash was used up close. The current one, a Kodak, is much less likely to do that.

Mal did it too, but she did it up top where the petting zone meets the tube. That presented no problem (save that she'd walk through it). Jayde's choice of location--not at all optimal. So she's in the aquarium now, in my bedroom. I made the mistake of putting the aquarium initially in the living room on the floor beside where the CT2 had been--and it got down to 63 there! No wonder she was burrowing in the Carefresh!! The bedroom is far warmer. But for a while there it was TOO warm--nearly 80 at times--and so that's why I had her out of the bedroom and in the living room since I got her. The bedroom is more reasonable now, though, since I got permission to play with the thermostat downstairs.

Here it is either freezing or hot. For years I had not even turned on the steam heat: it smells, it hisses, the pipes knock, it is inconvenient to get to (the valve is on the floor under the radiator, and sometimes leaks), and if on at all it is ALL the way on. I then have to open windows as it is stiffling. There is no happy medium. It is a pain as it makes sleeping tricky - blankets and a comforter, or none. But it has been so cold several times this season I had to as it is impossible to totally block the air leaks from where the a/c is. Have to repair my own CT2, the one Princess came in when I rescued her 3/2/03. The little plastic hooks that keep the levels hooked on to the bars have broken off. I have holes drilled in them and will try to hook them up with wire or big paper clips. BTW, I am right now, finally, updating the Memorial Photo Gallery. Take a peak later as you please, or now for a work in progress. My apologies to all the critters delayed in being remembered this way. Just so busy.

That's great that Jayde is doing well! I know what you mean by the temperature thing; our hamsters would be in our room and away from the vent, but I always thought that it might be too cool/warm in there. Tell Jayde, I said, "Hi!"
