I have had a bunny before, i have to say he was my favorite pet, my husband got him for my birthday when w first got together. So we might end up with a bunny rescue... from a well intentioned but.... lacking in foresight acquaintance of ours. What i want to know, is , do bunnies, like rats require buddies? my single bunny was fine by himself, though he did die somewhat young from pneumonia or something similar. ( it broke my heart and was kinda tragic.)
We already have the house set up for rats, and are making a custom rat cage, I know it is not the best idea to let those 4 mingle, but what about the Bunny? ( he named him Clyde) How much time does a bunny need to make up for being alone?

How social are rabbits?
To put it simply, they are not as social as rats who are very much so. Gerbils are too, but gerbil intros are hard and tricky. Syrians are loners, and I don't think dwarfs care either way. Mice are very social, except males who may fight.
Yes, rabbits can do well on their own, but they are social creatures. However, it's always best to learn the temperment of your rabbit prior to introducing another rabbit to your rabbit. As long as you are having interaction with your rabbit daily, allowing your rabbit to exercise daily and giving him/her lots of toys to play with, your rabbit will be happy.
It's not a good idea to house two males together that have not been altered. Bucks are very territorial once they reach sexual maturity (3-4 months), they will fight. Does who are not spayed will show mounting behaviors, as well as aggression to the other rabbits. If you choose two from the same litter, they will get along well at first, but it's best to spay/neuter them so they will get along even better.
But if you keep them around you, play with them, change toys, and give them some safe "out" time, one should do OK. Minimum time of an hour+.
So, two is great if they get along. But it is not necessary.

Sure. I am here right now as Poppy my bunny is undergoing an operation. I call the vet for a pickup in half an hour. See other thread on this.
