Hello, Rodent Retreat! Long time no chat! I have been a nomad again. I worked at a Ranch Camp for awhile, and then after a bit of a gong show there, I moved here to Port Coquitlam. (it's near Vancouver).
Meeks is doing well. Getting much more mellow as he ages. My family can pet his back when he's running around in his cage, which is a HUGE improvement to before. Megs moved back into my parent's house with her Doberman. I told her she was free to continue to tame Meeks if she wanted. I was going to move him here with me, but I figured I'd wait until the weather cooled off a bit. Taking a hamster on an approx 6 hour car ride in the middle of summer did not seem very nice. Once the weather cools I will go back home for a visit and bring him back here with me when I come.
I am getting a rescue from SARSBC. His name is Theo, he's a Syrian, and he's fat. That's about all I know so far. I said I'd be more than happy to take him in, so I called my landlord, got permission from the others in the house, and finalized everything. I will be getting him sometime after Friday, as I am house/dog sitting until then. I am very excited to meet him. The girl that surrendered him (due to divorce) said that he was a year old, but they think he's younger than that. I haven't seen him yet, so I can't say.
Of course I will post pictures when I get him home. I'll wait till he gets settled in before stressing him out with cameras and such.

So nice to hear from, you, and to hear about your critters! So how has Summer been for you? I have had better: right now it is hot, I have computer issues, and dental issues, and lots of work. . .

Hey Dezzi the Nomad! Good to hear from you! But I already knew about your chubby boy--I posted on your thread elsewhere, as you may recall. Theo--Katie once had a ham by that name, a dwarf. We look forward to photos. Glad Meeks is well. You used to have Darko too--is he still out there somewhere, or did he pass?
EDIT: I just saw the other thread. . . . RIP Darko.
Send Megs my regards--is she still engaged in scientific pursuits?

Here's a pic of him taken from SARSBC. >>So how has Summer been for you?<< Hectic, crazy, full of moving and drama. It has started to die down and now I'm just job-hunting and keeping busy. >>I posted on your thread elsewhere, as you may recall<< Yes, I saw your post! Hopefully he'll slim down quickly. >>Theo--Katie once had a ham by that name, a dwarf.<< His full name is Théoden Ednew, which is the King of Rohan in the beginning of the Lord of the Rings (after he's been freed from Grima by Gandalf). The girl who named him Theo originally named him after her cousin, so his name has double meaning. >>Send Megs my regards--is she still engaged in scientific pursuits?<< I told her that everyone misses her and wish her the best. She's finished school with a bunch of science degrees. Now she wants to raise/train Dobermans and show them. From what I know, she is job searching as well.

I think of Megs whenever I think of my cockatiel, Heather, as she named the bird. Tell her. Wish she'd drop by for even a moment.
I did not knew Theoden's last name. Must have missed that in the long book.
Meeks looks like a banded sable longhair, which makes me a little sad as that was the color of my fave ham ever, Princess, and the much beloved Prince who looked like her younger brother but wasn't.

>>Wish she'd drop by for even a moment.<< I told her to stop on the forum, but she's been busy at home so we'll see if she does or not. >>I did not knew Theoden's last name.<< Ednew isn't really Théoden's last name, it's the addition to his name he was given after Gandalf cleansed Grima's curse. It means "renewed". >>Meeks looks like...<< The first picture was Théoden. This little guy is my Meeks.

Aw, Theo looks cute and that's a great name for him. From that picture you showed he really doesn't look that big. Has he been handled often? And it's great to see you too Dezzi!! That's great that the summer has been good for you although it's been busy. Tell Meghan I said, "Hey!" and we miss her! That's pretty neat that she wants to show Dobies, dogs are really cool.

I did not know that either.
Thanks for the photo.
BTW, I need to check to see if Megs' account is still active. . .

Théoden is home! He arrived yesterday and has been zooming around. He's in a terrible wire cage at the moment (I'm waiting to use up the cereal so I can cardboard the top level and the wheel) and I'm trying to get my nice cages from home back. He's a bar-chewer, so I'll probably put him in a tank. I'll take pictures for the gallery once he's settled in.

So... I have had some new additions to my hamster family (see the thread in the Dwarf section) and my cages have been swapped again. I got almost all of my hamster stuff shipped up here, so right now Théoden is in the old cage Megs had for NP and Meeks is in a 10 gallon tank with a wire topper I bought. Théo hasn't been chewing the bars since he was moved to the larger cage.
He is super friendly and has definitely been handled a lot. He's really good about being picked up. He does get a bit antsy when I bring him out, but it's probably because he can a) smell the other hamsters and b) still doesn't know my smell. He's losing a bit of weight, which is good.
Meeks has been losing a bit of fur, but I think he's only molting. I called my vet and explained what he looks like. There's no mites, he's not catching it on anything in the cage, blah blah blah. I was told to just leave it be unless it either a) doesn't grow back or b) it gets worse. He's still his usual chipper self, so I'm not worried about it. He's getting a lot better about being picked up and handled.
I still haven't gotten pictures as I've been busy with the new ones. I will get some once everything is organized and cleaned.

That's great that Theoden is doing well and Meeks too! I hope Meeks' problem gets solved. Sometimes my dwarfs would lose their fur too, but they were older then.
