He was feeling his oats tonight so I had him out crawling on me to wear him out. He had been climbing the bars of his cage to the top of his wheel then sliding down it. He kept knocking his little ladder down as well but I've managed to rig it up so it's rodent proof. (so far) I am going to take him in to the vet to get his nails trimmed; I managed to get two of them without a problem but he's got one that's almost growing into itself and two that I can't see the quick, so I'm leery to try. He was NOT happy that I figured out how to hold him on his back with his feet up (and body still supported) without him being able to lower his head to bite me. Thankfully once I flipped him back onto his feet and let him run across my arm he was back to his cheery old self. I tried to get some pictures but my camera isn't focusing. If only my other hams were as nonchalant about being manhandled as he is... I'm glad he is how he is, though. It's been years since I've had any other ham not wear down their nails. I have a block set up under his water bottle, plenty of things for him to climb on (but not high enough for him to hurt himself if he falls) and wear down his nails...

It is always tricky to scruff a dwarf!
Best.

He's a Syrian, but yes the dwarfs are definitely much more difficult to scruff! He's much more laid back about the whole thing than the Robos are, though.

Oh yea, Syrian! Well, Syrians are relatively easy to scruff.
As for nails, happily, two of my cats came back groggy from neutering already with claws trimmed! Convenient for me.
We await photos. . . I cannot add new photos as my main PC is down and this is an old PC with a messed up USB port - so it cannot take a photo reader. I hope to have a replacement by early December, or early January, latest. After that, I will work on repairing the old PC. I still wonder of Macs are better. . .

I love when vets do their nails at no extra cost.

He does sound funny and fun to play with. Hamsters can have oats by the way? The kind of oats that horses eat?

Hamsters can have oats by the way? The kind of oats that horses eat? They can certainly have oatmeal, dry or cooked, but that's not what Dezzi meant. "Feeling his oats" is a synonym for "being lively."

DF - I have the numlock on my keyboard on and then hit alt and 138 using the number pad. It makes the è character. There are a ton of other codes for the different ones found here. Some of them are pretty fun! ♪ ♀ etc I did mean it in the sense that Thèoden was feeling lively, but I have given him bits of oatmeal before. It's a common phrase on the farms where I grew up... EDIT: When I took in Eddy (see "wee bit worried" in Rats) I asked about getting nails trimmed. He said he's never had to do them before, but he said if I'm comfortable doing Thèo's other nails then all I have to do for the one that's curling is clip it. He gave me a suture thing that will stop the bleeding if I accidentally get the quick, so I don't have to worry! I'll try to get some pictures of it. Apparently if I touch it it's not bad for me, but may leave a nice black dot on my hand... could make for an interesting temporary tattoo! But seriously, I'm happy I can clip the nails without worry.

Do you have a button on your laptop that says "Fn" and then secondary numbers? Mine has the Fn button then F11 is numlock. Then alt 138 is actually alt jl8. It's hard to explain unless you can see it.

The Num Lk button is short for "number lock". On a laptop it makes the letters turn into the number pad, on a desktop it keeps the number pad the numbers, instead of moving everything.
