I know Chlorpalm is commonly used for lagomorphs.
I used to feed Princess, when she was getting Baytril, yogurt with lots of probiotics. She would get the Baytril; six hours later yogurt, six hours later Baytil; six hours later yogurt. . . whew. And every time I looked I feared I would find her dead. I did not. She lived another six months, and she was not young when I rescued her.

Wow--so much info in this thread!
I will give Jayde a bit of yogurt, then. The every-6-hours regimen won't work, but something will be better than nothing. I am pretty sure she likes it, and I always have it here.

I stopped the Baytril after 7 days; she was fine for a few days but then became red down below again, so I resumed it. She is now bleeding in spite of the Baytril, though except for sleeping more and eating a bit less she's normal in every other way. As my friend said, "You're afraid you'll come home to a hemmorhage, aren't you?" Yes. . . Fortunately I'm home all weekend what with the impending storm, and so she and I will have opportunities for quality time. I lost Critter, Pinky, and Mal in January or February. I hate to think I might lose my Jaydee Girl this month as well.

I know the medicine is supposed to help, but could it ever have an opposite effect on Jayde, Robin? Maybe it's making her bleed instead of stopping it; I know there are quite a few human medicines I've heard do that.
Maybe she needs something else? I will pray for little Jayde to get better. *hugs*

Actually, Katie might have a point. I was watching a show called "Afrikatrek" - a married couple walks across Africa, south to north. She got malaria, and the more IV meds they gave her the worse she got. So the husband stopped it, and eventually she recovered. Does not necessarily have relevance for a hammie. Talk to the vet about it, or a second vet. Most give free advice. Best wishes. I lost two critters within the past four days. See Memorial forum.

Baytril itself doesn't have anticoagulant properties, but it is possible that a uterine infection could be walled off from the rest of the body, and attacking the infection is opening up a way for the blood to get out of the body. Some pathogens that are resistant to a drug can actually use the drug as a food source, or the drug kills off other pathogens that would normally be competing for space with that pathogen so they do better while the drug is there because they're the only one resistant to it. More likely, the infection has gotten a stronger hold on her. I don't know what to say in this situation; I don't have the experience or the know-how. Just good luck and Jayde is in good hands.

I just wonder, having used amoxicillin last week, and again within the past year, if I should use another antibiotic next time I need one. Just saw on TV a patient with melanoma tumors being cured by having a form of herpes injected into the tumor! I'm sure you can Google this and find the story on the Web.

There's been no bleeding for a good two weeks. So she's holding her own.

Yippee! Good to hear she's doing better. I would have posted earlier but sometimes your medical mumbo-jumbo is too confusing for me! <3
