I am looking right now at the Nordic 30k Pursuit race. They are skiing cross country over slush as it is 52 degrees F there!

Latest: a Dutch speed skating coach cost a top athlete from getting a Gold medal by telling him to make an INCORRECT lane change during the long race! He was disqualified. The coach may not want to go back to the Netherlands! >> Feb 23 (Reuters) - Factbox explaining why 23-year-old Dutch speedskater Sven Kramer’s lane violation cost him an Olympic 10,000 metres gold medal at the Vancouver Winter Games on Tuesday. Victory and the gold medal were handed to Lee Seung-hoon of South Korea. * In the 10,000 metres event, each athlete races 25 laps around the 400m track. They complete their race in pairs and the winner is determined by the overall fastest time. * No matter what distance the race, speedskating athletes need to change lanes each lap in order to cover 400 metres per lap and reach the full distance. All skaters are aware of this rule and usually do not need any lane indication from their coaches. * With eight laps left in Kramer’s 10,000m race and having set the fastest intermediate time, he was mistakenly directed to the inner lane by his coach on the approach to the lane change.Kramer, who had correctly been heading for the outer lane, was subsequently disqualified after posting a time more than four seconds quicker than his nearest rival. * It is very rare for a skater to pick a wrong lane during a race and usually happens only to less experienced athletes.<< sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?slug=reu-speedskatingkramer_factbox_pix&prov=reuters&type=lgns

Watching the women's figure skating right now. The South Korean girl was incredible! And the Japanese looks great too - on the ice right now. But the Korean surely will get the Gold. Glad I recorded it. Don't much love the second Japanese skater's music and choreography, but she skates wonderfully. Here comes the Canadian whose mother died of a heart attack several days ago, You can follow this online: www.nbcolympics.com

I am still awaiting an answer from my uncle as to which area of New York. I know he worked near the Trade Centers but have no idea where he lived.
>>But you do have seasons, right? I mean, in terms of temperatures, not rain. The leaves change, right?? <<
We have our seasons. Winter - Snow Spring - Rain Summer - Rainy with Sunny breaks Fall - More Rain
But yes, in all honesty we have the gorgeous leaf-changes, we get the semi-hot summers (in some areas VERY hot summers), but a lot of times it's... well rain!
I've seen bits and pieces of events as they have it playing through projectors as you walk through the mall. I haven't really followed... I would but I have more interesting things to do than watch the games. Like take my rodents to the vet on Monday!

>> We have our seasons. Winter - Snow Spring - Rain Summer - Rainy with Sunny breaks Fall - More Rain! << We here in NYC just broke the all-time record for snowfall in February! And I still prefer it to the HOT humid stinking August with flies all over and high electric bills for the a/c. The latest on the Olympics. . . the Korean girl won the gold for skating. Meanwhile the raucus Canadian female hockey team, after getting their gold medals, was running amok on the ice drinking beer and smoking cigars. Heaven knows what went on in the locker room! And the IOC is having a fit.

AHAHAHHAAHAA I didn't know that. Not at all surprised, though. Seems like downtown is just one big drunken party right now.

Scotty Lago, U.S. snowboarder, was kicked off the team for salacious photos with him and a female he had sucking on his medal. Look it up on Google.
Tomorrow the big hockey game - noon your time, 3 PM mine!
I will post a photo gallery of NYC in the snow soon elsewhere here. Later.

It is coming to an end. The final event, the Gold Medal hockey game, is half finished, and the U.S. is down 2-0 and showing little offense
It has been said that next Olympics the NHL will not let its players compete as it will be in Russia, and a hockey game played at, say 7 PM their time would be 2-4 AM for most Americans and Canadians. So none will see it, not live. Even a game starting at 3 PM there would be on in, say, Chicago, at midnight.

So, the U.S. team came back to tie it with almost no time left, only to blow it in OT. Better they didn't tease us and just lost in regulation. Canada wins 14 Golds, to the U.S. 9. I would say that is a loss all around for the U.S. regardless of how many Bronze they have.
