I don't know what happened to it but it is spinning aroung when it walks, I thought broken leg at first but I had another infant do the same thing and it was nuerological I can't take it to the vet I don't have the money, I am soaking some bread in evap milk I am going to try and feed it later just in case it is a broken leg, to keep it nurished. I took it out of the cage the rest of them are walking all over it, Kicking it around, the mother not caring about it, or any of them really it seems to me. The baby fell out of petting zone, but he also looks like he is having siezures too. I don't know what is going on really I just know something is wrong and I have had a lot of trauma with my gerbils lately, this baby is from a inbred father so it could be a complication. Right now it is asleep but jerking around and it whimpers, I just have to wait and see what happens there is nothing else I can do.

>> the baby fell out of petting zone <<
If you mean a Crittertrail2, I would never keep babies in that - way too high up.
I have no idea what is happening. Maybe andrea or furryflowers knows.
Sometimes there is indeed nothing we can do.
Best.

Yikes, alot of bad signs here. I hate to say it, but I don't think this baby is going to make it, it sure dosn't sound to good. I don't think it's a broken leg. They usually are their normal selves except with a limp if they ahev a broken limb. When everyone is ignoring the ill one, it's usually a bad sign. When you say it's having seizures, how does it look? what is it doing? are it's ear flat on it's head or standing up? I think there's a few things we can change to make sure this doesn't happen to other gerbils in your clans. Make sure to sex everyone and keep same sexed pairs to stop inbreeding. Inbreeding just isn't fare for the little gerbils who have to live short and sickly lives. Have Mom & Babies in a tank, or even cage, but nothing they can hurt themselves on. I learned this the hard way with Wheels in a tank with babies Not to sound totally heartless, but I don't think at this point a Vet could help you. But I don't want that to stop you from going if you are planning to. Keep the baby comfortable, and in a quiet area. I send my wishes to the little guy.

I wanted to take it into the vet but I just can't right now, I don't have the money and he couldn't do anything anyway at this point. He just jerks when he is quiet. I put it back with the mother should I take it back out again? oe even feed him? If they are deliberately kicking him well thats not right. They are in the critter trail , I haven't been able to get anymore tanks, I have to pay my vredit carfs that I spent on the the four tanks I have [ ] or they will start calling me as well another thing to over whelm, these gerbils have been a pain in the last few days, Some good news though Nibbles is just fine, I was a worry wart over her, I sure hope nothing happens to that little girl anytime soon, she is my baby and my favorite gerbil, I'll lose it if I lose her right now, it will be just too much. Thank Andrea Hugs

I don't know what happened with the baby but today he is better no signs of a broken neck or leg, not spinning around when active. I changed the gerbils around yesterday I put the one gerbil that was in the tank and gave it to Nemo and the babies along with the petting zone. I guess he was just sore yesterday to be honest I don't know what was wrong with him but he has made a complete turn around today, no more danger of them falling from any high places now, I should have been smarter than this about the newborns and the cages. I am now going to only have tanks. I don't even have a wheel in thier tank there is nothing that can hurt them now. I have learned a lesson through all of this:) Now just to get the others fixed up and I will have healthy gerbils. YEA!!!

Sounds like a seizure brought on by falling from the top, but i mean it's hard to say for sure since i didn't see the little guy. I would just be real careful with him, if it's seizures I hope he'll just grow out of them, if it's something he will have for his life, it will shorten his life span if he has many. My breeder friend had a female who is seizure prone, she dosn't breed this gerbil, but has kept her b/c of the gerbils disability. It is so bad that we can't touch the gerbil, otherwise she starts fitting Oh and the gerbil is So friendly to. My 2 seizure prone girls grew out of it so i thought, we think Porsche's seizures may have been what made her ill so quickly, a Vet student mentioned to me if she had fitted and been eating something, it could have been inhailed into her lungs where it infected and eventually killed her. Or b/c of the seizures she was just predispoded to illness. So either was it's best to be a little more careful with them.

All I can add is I'm glad it worked out well. the only kind of seizure I had was from using "8 in 1" Ultra Care mite spray, perhaps too often.

I don't know what siezures looks like, I just assumed with him spinning around like he , but it was more rolling over and over maybe because of the pain he was in. I'm just so glad he is ok now. My son was very upset over it. The baby is safe now and with his mother and bigsister it was so strange yesturday they were being mean and uncaring for him but today she is with him as much as she is with the other ones. I put the petting zone in the tank with all the bedding that she had and also when I transferred them to the tank all the bedding that came from cage I put in there too, so they weren't put in new inviroment, then added fresh bedding also because there wasn't enough with just the cage. She has made another tight nest in the petting zone, I can't tell what gender they are because they have fur on thier stomachs now so I am just going to have to make very sure what they are when the time comes for them to be split caged with the declanned gerbils. I'm hoping that there are two boys and one girl

Crystal went to one side, sort of twitched a little, but the back legs twitched weirdly more than a little. That body also kind of shivered. It is hard to remember that; she was my favorite.
