So I heard back about the buns. I will be getting some, now it's just a matter of deciding which ones.
There is a pair of buns that have been fostered by the same lady for the past five years that might be returned due to a change in her home situation. There's a chance I will get those boys. We're waiting to hear back from her if she is really going to give 'em back or if she can work something out. If yes, they will probably go to me!
I'm really not picky about which ones I adopt. I just want to give 'em a home.

Commendable about you. But then I guess most everyone on this board helps animals in the way we can through rescues and working with rescue groups, etc.
What I will be curious about is how they react to the new surroundings and how you will break them in. We discussed "out" time - and the problems I face - in another thread. With many potential hiding places, and cats here, things get complex if I just open the door: cats can go in, rabbits go back in and hide, etc. I suppose I would have to lock them out; then they would surely get nervous and hide. But if they had to poop, then what? See what I mean?
So let us know how it goers for you. But my two girls are tightly bonded and I am glad they have each other!

The boys are already bonded so thankfully I don't have to worry about that!
They will be in my TV room (it has been rat-proofed from when I had the boys in there and from what I read it is also bun proof) and they will never be out unsupervised. I may rodent/bun proof part of my bedroom (as there is a door connecting to the TV room) so that they can go in there as well. The cats are not allowed in my part of the house. They got in there once (under the "supervision" of my landlord's daughter) and lets just say she won't be going near my rooms again.
I plan on putting down litterboxes and sitting on the floor with the cage door open and doors to the room closed. They can explore their surroundings and get used to me at the same time. Oh hey, you know how with hamsters giving them a piece of tissue that smells like you can help the taming process? Would a towel or old clothes that smells like me have the same effect on a bun?
One other thought. I have the mice in the room as well... neither animal will be stressed by having each other in the same room, will they? (They will be quarantined first, of course) Will the buns stress if they can smell the cats through the door? (The cat's litterbox is in the little room at the end of the hall outside the door and sometimes it gets stinky.)
If you guys have any helpful suggestions I'm all ears! You're the pros at this.

That's neat that you'll be getting bunnies soon, Dez! What do they look like and what are their names? I'm all ears! ^I found what you said there funny because bunnies have long ears!

www.petfinder.com/petdetail/3727708?recno=14That's their Petfinder link. Let me know if it doesn't work. (Note: They are 5 now, so will look different from the pictures) Those are the ones I might be getting, but it's still not for sure yet. They're gorgeous, imo.

I have been spending the evening working on photo galleries! Whew. A little dizzy.
I see your buns look nice, and you can tell them apart! Asia and Becca look almost identical: one had darker fur but I can only tell under bright light.
The towel thing should work.
My problem is the cats and rabbits (they always get along) are in the same location, as I described. Cats ands rabbits usually get together well, but that is not my problem ; I described it above.
It's late. . . I have to make TWO galleries for each bunch of photos - one for Facebook and one for Webshots. FB galleries can't be seen un;less you log into FB.

UPDATE:
Got a phone call today from the head of our foster program... there was a bit of a mix up with the buns! She'd been having quite the time with sick fosters and events and had taken awhile to get back to the woman who has them now. What does this woman do? Contacts another rescue and tries to surrender the boys! That rescue contacted us and so I got a phone call tonight to give the woman who has them a call. I'm going to *hopefully* get together with her and see if I can take her setup. If not, I'll find a cage setup and take them in. She needs them out by this weekend apparently...
Oh, and she says they have been around cats, which hopefully makes my life easier. They'll get more places to explore if they can be near cats... I'd be more concerned about the cats having an issue, though? I don't really know what to expect from a cat/bun situation.

Wow, almsot sounds like how i got my first two boys, Baby & Bubba. Same thing, this lady had ADOPTED from us, and signed our contract saying if she could ever not keep them they were to be returned to us! And she's trying to sell them... I went in played stupid and adopted them from her, gave her no money though. Never told her I was actually pretty much taking back the rescue bunnies. I ended up adopting them and well... yeah here we are.
I can't check petfinder from here, who are the boys? If she dosn't give you the set up stuff, what do you have? or whata re you wanting to make etc.? I haev a ton fo SARS NIC cubes, they need to be washed, but I am sure it'd b ok for you to use them.

I talked to the lady who has Boston & Donnelly right now. (apparently they've had their names changed to Sam & Frodo) Boston is Sam & Donnelly is Frodo. They were born in '04 and she got them in '05 I believe... Boston(Sam) and Adera were the the parents of Frodo and his brothers/sisters. Sam is the black lop and Frodo is the mottled. She seemed really nervous that someone else was taking them (as she's had them for 5yrs and doesn't really want to give them up) but I told her I'd email her updates on them every once in awhile and she is more than welcome to come visit them if she wants. Hopefully that will make her more comfortable and ease the transition for her. After talking to her directly the situation is a little bit less sketchy. She's hurt her back and is in the middle of doing renos and her family/friends are tired of having to look after her and the buns and her cats. I can see by the incredibly detailed email she sent me on their care that she really does love them. She was emotional on the phone when I talked to her as she feels like she's let them down since her accident. The setup she has for them will hopefully work perfectly for the space I have, so that will be good. I am getting the cage (and stairs they built up to it) as well as a few Xpens and a box for hay. She's pretty much giving me everything they have. Here's the picture she sent me of them and their home. She leaves them in there when she's out and then when she's home they're in the living room with the family. I'd be worried they'd jump over the pen from the stairs, though? Another bonus is they're used to cats. They're both well known to the vet I use so I don't have to switch vets. Apparently Sam has a dental malocclusion and has to have his teeth clipped... Andrea do we have anyone at SARS who will do this and nails? I'd rather donate to the rescue than pay the vet. I'm heading out tonight to pick them up and will post some pictures and such once they are settled in. I'm oh so very excited!

Yay, Dezzi! Glad the boys are coming your way after all! Sounds as though you'll have it easier because they're already really used to people and felines. Good luck with the homecoming!

I know those boys At least by their original names. Julia, Lisa and I can do nails, same with Sylvia and probably Jan to. The only bunny I cannot do nails on is my Bo... it's a nightmare and u need 2 ppl. Last week when I was doing nails he freaked out and even pee'd he was so upset, and he was just sitting on my lap, not flipped or anything (dang Rex's LOL). The boys are beautiful bunnies, I've only seen their pic's never met them in person. Is she giving u the X-Pen as well? That'd b great they are SOOOO handy but so expesive as well. I am always trying to get my hands on another when i see them on craigslist. I have 2, but ones kinda crappy. Goodluck with all the bunny stuffs, let me know if you need anything.

I thought you would probably have heard of them. Well, if you have your get together for the volunteers and their buns this summer, I might have to bring them with me and see how it goes! Would be nice to finally meet you in person after all these years.
I kind of like their old names better... might change back to them but we'll see. I've already had hamsters named after the characters from Lord of the Rings, so to me Sam & Frodo are hamsters I had as a little kid.
I don't mind learning how to do them but she says Sam is really squirmy when he gets picked up. What about doing teeth? Anyone who can do them or should I leave that one to the vet? That freaks me out a bit more than nails to do myself.
I believe she said I'm getting two Xpens (yay) which will be awesome. I really won't know what else I need until I see everything but I definitely know where to ask! Thanks so much for offering.

So I have three Xpens, the cage, and an extra litter box. The only issue with the cage is that there is no way for the buns to get from that to the floor and back up. The bf and I were thinking we could saw the legs of the cage off (as he can always weld them back on if they needed to go back at some point) so that we could use a smaller ramp... the issue there is a) them jumping onto the top off the cage and hopping over the Xpen and b) that cuts off all the area for them to hide under the cage in the pen, and if we make the pen part bigger that cuts off half the room. Any ideas, guys?
Oh, and the hay bale thing was a full sized bale of hay on these giant wooden planks. It wouldn't fit in the car so she's donating it to the SPCA. TBH the hay quality itself didn't look too good... my horses wouldn't have eaten it so I don't see how the buns could have liked it.
So they are going to be just in the cage tonight until I can figure something else out for them tomorrow.

Wow, you've got them already! nice. I have ramps to some of mine, I only have 2 bunnies that would jump on top of anything, as they are CRAZY lol... I don't think I coudl see a bunny jumping off the top of a cage over an X-Pen, even my Suzy's hasn't done anything that far. My worry is if u saw the legs off the cage, they may never weld back on properly. All those kinda products are built so crappy, we have this chair we've welded up like 4 times LOL (Bad design, nice chair though LOL). Do you want to keep that cage? or would you rather build a NIC one? NIC's are ncie b/c U can build up, and change them at any time, though some of the materials (zip ties & coroplast or carpet) can sometimes be expencive.
I got a bail of first cut timothy from Country Feeds a month back it's GREAT! A huge american sized bail though (didn't fit in my hay bin), the quality's the best i've had in a while. Do you have space for a bail?
