Hope that fat kid doesn't try to ride Einstein! Jake - 20 hands! 240 lbs at birth! Glad I don't have to clean HIS stable. Most interesting. Thanks. Meanwhile, I have a cold from all my recent doings. *cough cough*

The picture of Einstein is VERY dis-proportioned... He doesn't look healthy at all, he almost looks photoshopped. When we had foals they had big heads but not like that. That's not cute to me, that's another one of those "breeding too small" things like what happened with all those "teacup" dogs. I'll be very surprised if he grows properly.

I thought he was just born small and would grow later in life. So he is going to be like those teacup dogs? If so, that is sad.

I don't know if he will... foals are SO finicky as babies! We had two of the runts pass on. I'll be surprised if he lives as when they are that small they don't always develop properly... and just looking at him he doesn't look like he was able to fully develop. Honestly he looks kind of like a fetus.

I have no idea. Anyone know some equine experts or a board I could post that on?

Poor Einstein then. I could ask my friend Sara next week if she thinks this horse will grow or not, but Dez, if I remember correctly (correct me if I'm wrong) was near horses, so she should know.

Grew up around them, have my own rescue at my place in Alberta, my step mom started a breeding program. I understand her views on the breeding program even though I don't agree with them, but she's a grown woman and is going to do what she pleases regardless of if I agree. This is Donte, he's one of our boarder's horses. He was born with a rear tendon laxity which can be seen as his legs are a bit funny. He's two hours old in that picture, so he still has wobbly foal legs. This is him four weeks later... he's got bad conformation but not to the point that it will affect his growth or anything. His legs have healed up and he's doing well. (He's coming up on a year old now, so these are old pictures) I just wanted to give a comparison between what a healthy foal with imperfect conformation looks like and why I think that the smallest horse looks so unhealthy... I was trying to find pictures of the mini's babies but I couldn't find any. That would be a more accurate comparison, but even at the smaller size the proportions should remain relatively the same. EDIT: I don't know how long the first foal will survive... I'm suspecting it will have health problems in the future. When I first saw the picture I thought it looked photoshopped. I'll be very VERY surprised if it grows up to be healthy and sound... but one can only hope for the best!

Your pictures are fine Dez as you can see the difference between Einstein and Donte. Donte does look normal...and cute!
Speaking of horses, the Kentucky Derby is on!

Ha ha I'm watching it! As much as I hate the way they are treated... I was just actually saying how these shows are always just them yabbing about the horses and such... the actual race is over in minutes!

I saw it. Just over two minutes long. The Preakness in two weeks is shorter.

Speaking of the Derby, Super Saver won it. I believe that is his name, I was told he was good running on those kinds of muddy tracks. Let's see if he can win the Preakness and then maybe I'll finally see a Triple Crown winner!!! ;D And speaking of Triple Crown winners, they're making a movie on Secretariat, my mother's favorite race horse. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secretariat_(film)
