New hamster! His name is currently Mr. Pickles (he's getting a new name) and he's a cutie. Long haired black Syrian with a teensy weensy bit of white on his belly. He seems really young and he has never had a water bottle before so he was confused as to what this new gadget was. Lets hope he figures it out quickly. He's a sweetie and was totally fine when I took him out of his carrier after his 2 1/2 hr car ride. Pictures soon, but first I have to go deal with the phone company being stupid again. Oi!

>> Long haired black<< Don't think I ever saw one. They always figure out water bottles, so long as they work. Best to the new guy!

You've never seen a long haired black Syrian? They're really common around here. I'll try to get some pics of him up.

So his background. He was dumped at some lady's house and she brought her to work. She works with a lady who's involved with SARS so of course he was taken into the rescue. Of course I was contacted. He's apparently really young. I've got him in a 20gal tank now, not that poor horrible cage he was in when he got dropped off. Here's the pictures! I will try to get some better ones but I don't have a camera at the moment.

Awww, he looks like a lovable furball--you called him a sweetie, so I'm guessing that he's easy to handle?
Congrats!

He's fine when I hold him and when other people used to hamsters do. When the bf (who's pretty nervous holding animals) does, he gets pretty skittish. He's not a fan of being picked up but once held he's a doll.

Well, by golly. It's a long-haired black hamster. First one of those I've seen, too.

Told you it was very unusual.
"It" being that color and length fur. I never call animals "it".

There's tons of them down here. Still trying to come up with a good name for him, so far he's not showing much personality. He's still young though. I gotta get him a larger wheel as his fur is catching on the one I've got.

I remember that happening with the late and lamented Prince - photo in Memorial Gallery sig. A lonmg-hair sable. Looked just like the much loved Princess. They were both beautiful. So was Dion. The fur would spin into the hub of one of the wheels. I forget which. I think it was solid plastic. I forget what I did about that problem, but it was not serious or too common.
