It is a sad time when you lose a pet as we always think about the times when we first got them and the circumstances then. We remember all the little events with them and if a cagemate of theirs died. Finally, we think maybe there is something more we could have done, and maybe sometimes there was. But realistically we did a lot and all possible. And we cared.
Back in 2007 my animal rescuer friend, Susan, now moved to Penn. for the past three years, had some guinea pigs that needed homes. I picked out a young girl who just had a litter of still born babies - she was allowed to get pregnant way too early. Susan named her based on the Shakespeare character who had a hard time of it.
She lived for a time with Jessica, who died a while back.
Ophelia was always active and seemed to poop and pee more than others. I don't think it was diabetes; maybe that is just how she was, or the water bottle leaked! But she needed her cage cleaned often!
She always came out looking for her piece of carrot which she took from my hand. I will miss that. I will miss her.
There was a minor issue I noticed several nights ago, and I thought things were in hand, but with rodents they can go quickly.
And she was dead in the morning. And now I have a depressingly empty cage.
Lester the GP died not too long ago (separate thread). I moved him in with my beloved Sam, brother of the long gone Leslie, so I have only two GPs left.
Here is a funny link with photos with Max the giant rat, who has also passed:

I need to also update Max to my Memorial Gallery (in the sig below), also.
RIP Ophelia.
Distressingly, the weather is hotter than last week and no time for burials. I( need to get this done, but not with temps in the mid 90's.
I took these photos hours before she died, as she was not active and I feared the worst:
Yes, it will be a long day at the cemetery as they will be buried deep.
RIP, Ophelia.
And RIP to the few spiny mice I recently lost. Quite a few of them are not young.
