I was worried about Isabella recently b/c I found she I never saw her awake. I was concerned it was to cold in the basement where she was living, and moved her upstairs to the main area of our house where it is warmer and I could monitor her. I have found her sleeping/playing pattern very different. She's up early in the am a little, but up later in the evening more, but only for 20-30 mins at a time, then naps, then get's up again. She looks good and healthy, still active but this on adn off activity seems a bit odd to me, as I don't remember my other dwarfs having a small periods of activity ona dn off like this.

Hi Andrea. My two bigger hammies are like that. Emmy wakes up anytime of the day or night if you walk up to her cage. She usually wakes up at midnight and stays up until 6 in the morning. Radar is a whole different hammie. He is a napper like Isabella. Sometimes I have to wake him up or he will sleep the night away, but other times he will do the on and off sleep. Last night he was chewing on his cage bars for an hour. I took him out to hold him for a little bit before putting him into his ball and put him on my chest and he layed down on me. Instead of waiting a minute to see what he was doing I panicked a bit and started rubbing his back and giving him kisses thinking something was wrong. I came to realize the little bugger was just trying to take a power nap on me, and I blew an awesome opportunity with him. Each hammie has different patterns unless there is more that one to a habitat. Moving her out of the basement to a warmer room was the right move to make. In the summer the hammie cages are in my bedroom but the fall and winter months they come to the living room cause the bedroom gets chilly. Glad to hear baby Bella is closer to mommy now. She sounds normal to me. Please give her lots and lots of kisses on the nose for me. Andreas a good mommy!!!!

Issues: Izzy started biting me, not like her. I also noticed the back end sorta of wobble she has has gotten worse, she still active, eating and seems happy, but I notice she's getting a bit 'round' in the back end, her bottom/tail is more curved under. I believe she may have a uterin tumor growing. I had some other white dwarfs I was fostering who had the same thing before having to be put down. So, as long as she is still happy, eating and running in her wheel then I'll keep her comfortable. Kinda stinks because i really don't think she's that old.

Reproductive issues in dwarfies seem so common. Mal was only a year old; Jayde was about 20 months or so, and Ethel maybe 15 months. If she is rounding out it could be due to fluid retention from a tumor process. Hopefully what she has won't ruin her quality of life too quickly or too severely. Glad that she's eating, running, etc. Hugs to you and her. *hugs*

Issy has gone downhill, the tumor is just to large, it's causing her troubles walking and she's now leaking 'something' from her backside. I have made an appointment to have her put down tomorrow, i can't stand seeing her this way it's just so sad.
Poor little Hammy, at least i know though her life was short, she lived a very spoiled life with me.

Oh, poor little girl. But your last line is exactly how I felt about Ethel. 5 months with her only, but she got the best I had to offer. She got to live life as any ham should, at a trim weight and with adequate exercise and good food. Izzy had all the best from you too, and a better life than she would have had otherwise. Andrea, you have a big heart, and Izzy was lucky that you reached out to her.
Wishing you strength tomorrow. *hugs both of you* Ethel will meet her at the Bridge.

She passed away peacfully snug in her bed last night. So no need for the stress travelling in the freezing cold to be put down. I don't think i will get another Hamster, maybe when I have my own kids. When I decided on Issy it was mostly b/c I missed Happy Gilmore. But I know he was a 1 in a life time little guy. Issy was a beautiful little hammy, so much energy she really should have had a longer life, but such is life... unfair and sometimes crule. I'm glad to have come apon her, and able to give her a fun little hammy life.

It's good that she passed away at home where she was safe, warm and loved. RIP little Issy. Love and hugs Andrea.

Glad she went the way she did. Best wishes and condolences. I have posted stories where I prayed for death. See Hamster thead from about 2004, "Death Watch for Rainy". It was awful, with no vet available. Read it if interested; I am not commenting on it--too painful. A friend recently had to have her German Shepherd put down. I just read some of the details and I am in tears. I will tell the story in Dogs.
