You likely know Sam the GP is one of my most beloved critters. He was born here with his long gone brother Leslie; their mother was Jessica. The stories are posted. Leslie is deeply missed. It was very hot again today and I've been watching things carefully. His tankmate, Chris, was fine and frisky, but I checked inside the house where Sam's butt could be seen. . . and he was lethargic and wimp! I yelled out a few things, and he went right under the cold water faucet where he sat in cool water for some time. Later, I gave him just a bit of water, carefully. That was six hours ago, and now he is dry again, and in front of me, a little slower than normal but much better. I still worry. He is staying in this cooler room, and I am about to prepare a smaller cage. I have talked to him at length. Took a few photos. No mites were seen; no symptoms at all, other than those described. He will stay in here from now on, and it may be a long night as I watch. Chris will be fine alone. So, sorry I could not post other stuff; been busy.

Sam didn't make it. I found him dead this morning. A few rats also didn't make it. It is clear with rodents that once they start declining it is inexorable. Once they start to not drink or eat, that is it. I tried very hard with them last night, and it took a lot of time. I even moved Chris in here and some other rats, to keep cool. They are fine. The heat outside the bedroom is slightly better; fans are blowing. This might be the worst time I've experienced for heat; a few nights ago, even at 1 AM, it was 90 degrees! All this also wastes much time as it is impossible to do chores for long as I end up drenched in sweat, and it saps energy. 2 1/2 months to go of Summer. A mass burial must be held soon regardless of temps. No more room. Memorial thread later. At least I got to talk to Sam at length. Odd his cagemate, Chris, is fine.
