I picked up Magic, he is from a girl i know who likes to get pets then give/sell them after she gets bord of them. He was posted on Craigslist. Poor little guy was being terrorized by their new cat (The replacment) and then her two small children. Anyways, here are a couple pictures of the cutie, he's pretty shy but who wouldn't be after what he's been through. I'm thinking of split caging him with a loner male i have, hopefully it will work out and they won't have to live alone anymore. I'm kind of mad, even though i do not consider this girl a friend, I feel somewhat responcible for her even getting this little guy, i think if I had never had her over that one time, she would have never even considered a gerbil as a pet. It makes me mad that even with all the information she left my home with she still did everything wrong when she got this little guy... and now he's here with me. What's one more eh? So i'm thinking of re-naming him Blazer the second, after my beloved Blazer who I lost last Jan. who was also a mottled black. What do ya think?

Don't rename. I never would use the name of a deceased loved animal. Glad you rescued him. At least they used craigslist. Keep us posted.

I'm with DF--let Blazer be Blazer!
The first shot makes me want to say, "awwww--don't hide!" I actually like the name Magic for him--he is dressed in the traditional magician's colors, after all!

His coloring is the same as Sam's my most beloved gerbil ever--see the Memorial Gallery below.

Magic is very cute and I like his name. Since you don't consider her a friend, I would report her to any pet stores and tell them not to sell her any animals. I despise people like that. Animals aren't just toys you can throw away....oohhh...I so despise people like that! But good thing there are kind people like you to take Magic in and I bet he'll come out of his shell soon because you're such a sweet and caring person. *Off topic-but the name Magic reminds me of a sports story I did where Magic was the Papillon's name and he didn't know his commands too well.*

I was thinking a new name may be what he needs for his new life. Though I have been calling him Magic.
He's super scared, though i've been hand feeding him sunflower seeds and talking quietly to him. I gave him some hay and he was so excited, he was putting it all in his mouth then trying to run in his wheel LOL. I also gave him a poptart box to play in and some kleenex to build a nest. I covered half his cage with a towel too. He's in my livingroom.

As Robert DeNiro said in "Taxi Driver", "you talking to ME???". I got my photo right off a Papillon site. www.papillonclub.org/So why would they have phalenes on a papillon site? How about a phalene site? I guess they are so similar there is only one site for both.

Hehe-yes I'm talking to YOU!!! Papillons and Phalenes are basically very similiar. The only difference with them is with their ears. That is it. Papillon moms can have Phalenes and vice versa.

Well last night we made some progress! Magic was taking sunflower seeds from my flat hand and actually sat on it and ate one! YEAY! I can see he really wants to know me, but he's just so affraid So afraid he dosn't even thump, he just plays dead, i could pet him and he wouldn't run away he just freezes I've never had a gerbil like this. Another good note, the little agouti male i rescued and adopted a bit ago also has progressed, he was the biggest fraidy cat and now i can pick him up (His name is Ranger). It was a good night!

Magic is lucky to have an owner like you. If I just ignore the fact that he has a tail, then I can say, what a cutie! lol I love the third photo down.

Don't dig tails?? Gerbils have soft furry tails - I like them so much I rub them between my lips. Feels nice. Rat and mouse tails don't bother me but they are not cute. >> the little agouti male i rescued and adopted a bit ago also has progressed, he was the biggest fraidy cat and now i can pick him up (His name is Ranger). << That is very good quick progress!
