My gerbil friend from Washington came by this weekend with a "gift' for me. See her fiance has been accepted to a school in California and she is having to move, having 30+ gerbils (which are illigal in I'll try to get pictures of the boys as soon as i can. I still need names for them, and since my gerbil theme is vehicle names i may be sticking to that. I lost my *favorite* gerbil Maserati on my birthday last year, she was a spotted Burmese, and love at fist site, then a few months back Mercedes my very first Burmese girl (from the USA) past on at almost 3 years old, she had a terrible tumor. So these boys are kind of special in that way to me, plus being from my friend who's moving away and i won't be able to see very often

You might want to downsize that giant photo, please.
The gerbs are lovely.
>> how could i say no? <<
That's why have sores of rescues!
I am looking at a 20L tank of spiny mice a few feet away, and, while thinking of those gerbil colors, I wonder how many years it will take before spiny mice come in colors. As for gerbils, people on the AGS board who should know say it will take many years, but eventually gerbils will come with different types of fur - long, short, silkie/satin, etc.

She gave you the little guy you were interested in and a pal--how kind of her. It was great of you to accept. The colors are lovely. Do/did you already have a Honda? (Hollie's suggestion) So what makes have you yet to use as names? I'm trying to remember which you have used. . . . I remember some of them. Here are ones I don't think you've used. GM (a perfectly legitimate name, I'd say) Subaru Mitsubishi Did/do you have a Mercury and/or a Lincoln? VW (if GM is legit, so should this) I think you had/have Jaguar? Hyundai Mazda Ford Cooper (as in Mini--is Cooper a make or a model?) Scion Beamer (what my brother calls his BMW) There--my ideas!

Cute gerbils you got there. Yeah with something like that you really can't say no too. Sorry about your one gerbil dying. May she Rest in Peace. Burmese...is there a type of rat breed of that? I thought one of the workers at Paws said that about Ebony. It was something with a B anyway.

I don't think "breed" is the right term for color differences.
* Berkshire - colored top, white belly * Hooded - color running from full head down spine * Capped - color on full head only * Variegated - a blaze, or short white strip on the forehead, with a fully colored head and splotches or flecks of color running down the back only * Essex - similar to Berkshire, only that the color fades to white rather than ending abruptly * Bareback - color fully on head, neck, and chest only (not officially standardized in the UK) * Irish or English Irish - In England this marking is only standardized as an equilateral triangle of white with a side beginning at the chest, or between the front legs, and the point ending mid length. The AFRMA, another international rat fancier club, distinguishes this marking as the English Irish and allows for another standard Irish in which the rat may have white of an even or symmetrical nature anywhere along its belly.
While some pet rats retain the "agouti" (three tones on the same hair) coloring of the wild brown rat, other colors may include blue, chocolate, silver, black, white, and pearl, fawn/champagne/beige, and mink/cinnamon. Color definitions tend to vary for more vague varieties like fawn and champagne, or mink and cinnamon. They can fluctuate between and even within different countries or clubs.

My friend would have taken them back if i didn't want them, but she knew i wanted the one boy as I fell in love after seeing his picture. I have named the boys Honda (Mottled Burmese) and Civic (Burmese). They are very friendly, especially Honda. my friend suggested the names as she brought them to my place in her Honda Civic Anyways, here are some pictures my friend took ...

I've long been looking for jirds, jerboas, duprassis, and other small exotic rodents. Never found any available. Saw them at the Bronx Zoo, of course.

Very cute pictures Andrea!
I was in PetsMart today to get Chewie some things. I always go near and see the hamsters, and I saw one gerbil laying down in his bedding. He looked sweet and now that I think of it, he looked how my Chewie looked after playing a lot. He was black with a bit of white on him.

Hi Andrea, They are cute. Lucky you. I've seen elsewhere that your friend is moving and will have to give up her gerbils. I was wishing I'd be closer and I could take a few of them. Enjoy! Nice names, too!

I just take a peak on conditions and avoid eye contact!
