I was VERY careful when I hydrated Ethel with a syringe--one drop at a time, making sure she swallowed each. It took a long time, but I knew I wasn't making a bad situation worse.

Yeah, my one vet made me this cool syrine for giving 'hanging drops' for small critter, either water to medicine. He usesed a Multi Dremel to remove the sharp off the end of a needle, smoothing it down. This way you can hang a drop and let it fall into the rodents tiny mouth, and they seriously just drink it up themselves as soon as it touches their teeth. If they bit the end it wouldn't do anything sicne it's metal.
I used this to medicate Bruce my Degu mostly. It worked great.

Yes, DROPS ONLY. Never put it in the mouth. If they refuse to take drops, then what? Give up?!

I press on their lips a bit to move the drop around if they don't swollow it right away. I had a gerbil who refused, and refused, faught so bad and then died in my hands... Porche. I felt so aweful, but she was obviously done and ready to die. That's always the crappiest, but i know I tried to help me, it was all i could do.

See other threads on Annie.
