Welcome. Very impressive. Not a member of the AGS, and not on their message board? Add your comments, please, to my question about Sevin dust in the Gerbil forum. Photos of your gerbs, and other sage advice, or amusing anecdotes, is welcome. - - - - - Found this on AGS. Hope you don't mind my posting it for information. BTW, I didn't know sapphire was a known color in 2000. When was it found? >> Maestro’s Brood by Michelle Inman “Maestrosbrood” Hello, my name is Michelle. I am the owner and breeder of Maestrosbrood. I live in the Midwest. In East Moline, Illinois. I started raising gerbils in July of 2000, when I purchased four five-week-old pups from a local pet shop. They were Black, White, Sapphire, and Nutmeg. At the time I didn’t have a clue what they were. I’m an animal lover, but unfortunately lived in an apartment where I could not have dogs or cats. I just had to have something to cuddle and keep me amused. So these cute little fur balls seemed the perfect solution. My original females, Brownie and Angel are no longer with me having become escapees. Maestro and Skeeter are here to stay till death do us part. Fortunately, I had bred Maestro and Angel before she escaped. They had five pups beautiful pups that I was not able to part with. They are a permanent part of the clan. Thus was born Maestrosbrood. Newcomers have joined the clan along the way. “Ya know those must haves, when you know you really shouldn’t.” The last time I dared count there were sixty-four. They are the most wonderful, interesting, entertaining, intelligent never a ‘dull moment’ little creatures I know. I enjoy their antics and the care they give to each other. Many of mine will kiss when asked, come when called, and even follow me around. What part do I enjoy most about raising gerbils? “Well, the part from conception until they become angels.” They have never fail to put a smile on my face, even on my worse day. <<

Hi Andrea,At this time I don't have a web up I took it down. You can see some photos at yahoo. pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/maestrosbrood/albumI live in Illinois. Hi Tom, So you are a stalker.Lol. I used to be a member of the ags until several years ago a certain things happened and I just let my membership run out.I have remained on the list all these years.I haven't even read the sevin dust thing yet.but I'll look at it.Yes I have had my dealings with mites to.I hate them things. As soo as I figure out how to add photos I sure will. Well Since I knew of sapphires in 2000 They must of been around.I couldn't tell you when they were discovered.I haven't came across any dates as of yet.I am self taught by breeding and searching. When I satred no one knew anymore thatn I did so I had no choice but to research what I could and learned from my own gerbils. I have as of yet to determine whether Maestro the sapphire was a sapphire or a lilac. He was one of my mutated gerbs.I'm on the brink of tracing it. I keep records and everything.I can trace my gerbs 6-7 generations.

That is a very good pic.Seeing them together you can see the difference. It's when they are not together that is hard and for those that have not seen one or two of them can be difficult.Lilac is the easiest to tell it's the other two.And it can be difficult to tell some sapphires from a lilac with e and g.Michelle

You have some very cute gerbies! My friend Sandy is an incredible gerbil breeder, 20 years now she's been doing this. The picture DF has posted is hers. This is her website, it may interest you to take a peek - www.geocities.com/cvaneysinga/gerbil.htmlWhat are your mutations? I don't breed, so I'm not up to speed with genetics anymore. This is my photo album - gallery.hot4x4.ca/Gerbils Some are mine when i bred a couple litters (my first attempt on genetics), others are rescues & ones I have gotten from Sandy. Her 'Gumba' (PD lt pied Nutty) is a male I picked up out of Washington from a ex-breeder friend of mine.

Hi, I'd like to meet her.Twenty years is along time. But not to be rude I'm not trying to say she doesn't have the experience,,I'd just like to know how much.In my dealings I find those that have experience that long are usually pet experience type stuff or some genetics.I have found they don't see alot of things I see.Like to know how many she runs and has had over the years at any one time. She has the 3 grays and did a nice job.I'd like to venture with her further I can't find those here in the usa that have and know what I do.It be nice to meet and chat with some one that knows more than the average.I am not beyond learning more at all.I work with mmmm I'm afraid to give my numbers.Oh well I have more than 350 gerbs I work with on a daily basis.I stay at home. It's been years since I have carried less than 200.My gerbs have a room to themselves, they even have thier own A.C. I have an open invition for those that just want to see my kennel. It is set up to be seen not hidden.I have very good refrences for the care I give them plus it can be seen how well I do.Most people that see it are just all my smiles and tell me how awesome it is.Makes me feel real good to see how they like it. Thanks I do have some lovely gerbils and some real cuties.I will look at the photos soon.I love the nutmeg it is one of my very favorite colors. They can vary so greatly.I'll do a new thread on my mutations. They 're not colorful or nothing just very intrigueing and difficult to firgure out.Did you see the photos of what I labeled Satin? Kinda whitsih off colored? They're hard to described since no one's really seen them. They look like the color satin that's why I call them that or maybe a lt.beige.Anyhow some of them are actually slate or black.More in a new thread to come.Plus some goodies to come. It's been suggested I start a few lessons.I'll answer anything I can and won't BS what I don't know. Thanks again I think I'll like it here.Michelle
