Figured I'd put this in the Mouse forum. Found one dead an hour ago; i let out a big curse. The ones I have are not young. In several months I may have to start looking for more. That may prove difficult.

So sorry about your mouse dying. May s/he rest in peace. Why would it be hard to locate another one?

They are not commonly sold as pets. I had trouble finding even breeders for fancy mice and rats. I suppose I will at some point have to call a lot of pet stores, and do a lot of online research. I have seven left, separately housed except for three in one tank with a tank topper. There used to be more than three, of course. I guess I can also ask a few people I know who do rescues.

Lost another a few days ago. All my spiny's are old - 4+ at least. I have four left. Am trying to locate more; it is hard. I called the reliable fellow who helped me rehome some last Spring. They went to a good place, but a few passed away there, too. They had a good run, I suppose.

Thanks. Burial time in about a month when there is more greenery on the ground. You know where. The spiny's had a good run; they are not young.

Found another pet spiny mouse dead today. The whole crew, all related, was rescued as a large group many years ago from an awful pet store where they were breeding, unsexed, in the too small tank. Now, after almost five years, Nature takes its course. [ ] Looking for a new batch; very exotic and hard to find; quite different from regular pet colored mice in size and intellect. I did find in an empty (of pets) tank (with clean bedding and stuff) a wild mouse in the old place - last October. I decided to bring the tank here. . . and I have not seen the feral mouse since! But the water keeps going down and every morning the bedding is disturbed. So I guess he is still in there. lol www.facebook.com/groups/2645866435/Wonder if I can find on this forum when I rescued the bunch. . . the males had to be kept alone, of course. (I have a lot of empty tanks now That is not necessarily a terrible thing as I had too many).

Thanks. And NO MITES found on him. Which is good.
And, yes, the story is easily found less than three years ago in the Mice forum on RR, which is a short forum.
The search for breeders continues. . .

Spinys sound interesting. Never heard of them till I came to the forum. What is "spiny" about them?

And lost another a few days ago. Little fellow was quite old, 5+. I had rescued him from a tank of other males where he was being beat up and bitten; his ears were gone. He survived at least 2 1/2 years after that. This one meant a lot to me. Need to find more Spiny's.

Sorry for the loss of your sentimental favorite. I have never seen them advertised as for sale or as shelter/rescued animals, so I am of no help.

Found another one dead yesterday. These were old mice. The problem now is finding someone who has them that I can get to.
