Yup. In a nutshell: I put a bunch of little signs together and decided to test Mable's urine. It took a while to get her to pee in the jelly jar a la Frasier, and I had to get new test strips, but when all came together the evidence was incontrovertible. Tomorrow we go to the vet to see if anything else is going on. She has packed on a lot of weight for no good reason of late. Right now I am trying a natural method of control: seeds of the plant fenugreek can be used as a hypoglycemic. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FenugreekToo early to say if it's working. Another strategy involves using oral medication. I'll see what the vet says. Thankfully she isn't "sick" with this--all systems are normal save the sugar in the urine--but in time she'd decline, and I love my spirited girl too much to let her go before her time. Will post again post-vet visit.

Sorry to hear that. Not uncommon with them as you know, and you know best what to do.
I think it is little short of amazing you can find a vet who is truly knowledgeable about them. I tried, and had bad experiences, as you will recall.
Best!

Conflicting evidence: blood glucose is normal, but urine is still full of it. Could be worse, though. No ketones, which is good. I will continue her on the fenugreek to see if the urine returns to normal. She is otherwise healthy, said the vet, so that's good news too.

Good indeed.
I forget her age. . .
Meanwhile, one of the young "girl" rats spouted gonads! Big ones. I think I moved "him" out quickly enough - now four guys and two certain girls. At least I have seen no mites and no one died, as had happened. The girls are going into the big cage now that the young ones are too big to squeeze through the bars.

She's ten months only--a relative youngster for me. Ohh nooo! Sprouting gonads! Too funny! Will post later about the Pingster. . . . we ended up at the vet yesterday. . . . he has a "bloody tumor." He is 26 months and so it's not clear if surgery makes sense. He is also a Robo, and so very small.

Sprouting, not "spouting", as I wrote. We all thought that the rat was a she. But those things were big.
Ten months is fairly young. Lucky critter to be with you.
I almost freaked several days ago. Jason, a beloved kitty, showed all the signs of FLUTD. Serious! But they went away within a day. Just an aberration or something. Whew.
