Thought she was safe in her cage when Felicity the Lovebird and Candy the Quaker flew loose. Unfortunately, while I was away one of them reached in the cage through the bars and mangled and destroyed most of Sweetie's beak! I have asked vets for advice and am leaving soft food about, such as softened Zupreme pellets. She is locked in the bathroom now, with an extra lock on it! No one goes in there except me. We shall see. If I can't determine she is eating and drinking I will have to use an eye dropper. Hope the beak grows back. Always something.

Can't tell if she is eating or drinking. A vet advised pureed Zupreme pellets, which I have done. She is in the bathroom, locked away. She is chirping normally, and I did not even notice this until maybe a day after it happened. But I will tonight start in gently with the eyedropper, and I will use a scale for weight. This should be manageable. Dammit. Some things you just do not expect.

This morning. . . Sweetie didn't make it. Soon another keet will get rescued - and kept away from the others. Am I supposed to get mad at Felicity and Candy for doing this? I feel anger, but did I hate my cats for going after a mouse? It is what they do. The parakeet cage stays in the bathroom from now on, when I get a new one. DAMMIT!!

Very sad tale. Rest peacefully, Sweetie girl.
I just had an unexpected loss myself--Mable. Details when I feel up to it. This one has been harder to bear than others.

So sorry. This with Sweetie was so unexpected. Dammit!!!!! I never counted on THAT happening. So this coming week I'll rescue another parakeet, and she stays in the locked bathroom with the small and furries. I should add she was starting to look listless and not herself. I assume she was not eating and maybe not drinking. I use a slushy mash of Zupreme FINCH pellets and gently took an eyedropper and, with her upright, placed a few drops on the mouth. I am paranoid about forcing in any way liquids on an animal. I came back an hour later and she was gone. Sorry about Mabel. If you wish to see a beautiful but sad story about Kaiser the GSD, please see Animal News. It really choked me up.

Still pissed over this. Never expected THAT to happen. But the parakeet I got a month or so ago has been named Ashley. As with the other critters I got then photos have been posted elsewhere.
