So, I rescued a GP on September 3rd, and a few days later on Labor Day I was greeted by two miniature GPs looking back at me!! I have loads of experience with gerbs and hams but forgot for a moment GP babies come out usually in a pair and ready to go, eyes open and furry. I love their colors and fur. Perfect! The mom is white - genetics are interesting. I knew she was pregnant when I got her, btw. - - - - - - - A note added today, 3/28/10. - I named them Samantha and Leslie as I was not yet sure of their gender,. Turned out they were both males. Sam lives on today with long-haired Lester, but poor Leslie (three colors) died a year later, and it is a still great sadness for me many years later. Their mom has passed, too. Time flies.

YOU want to name them? I have to sex them first, obviously, why I waited. I took a look and at least one seems to be a guy. But they are very young, and I have never sexed GPs first. I'll write more later. It is getting hot again. This summer bummed me out like none ever has.

They are cute. The easiest way to sex gp's is to run your thumb down from the rib cage to the nether regions (I use enough pressure where I'm not hurting them) if it's a boy a penis will pop out, It never hurts to try it a few times. Males do have testicles, but not the huge ones rats and hammies have.

I suppose based on their fur dad was an Abyssinian??

So missed. Leslie was the worst death I ever had, his mom died too young, and Sam passed in the heat wave in July--see Memorial thread.

What cuties they were! So cool that they are born ready to rock and roll. Would like to know the evolutionary reason for that. My evolutionary biologist buddy might know.

Not commenting. It is too sad for me. But thanks.
