When Barb Dougherty delivers the mail in Oil City, Pa., the last thing she expects to encounter is a nutty squirrel. So the 30-year U.S. Postal Service veteran was freaked out when she was attacked and bitten by one, according to the Associated Press. "It was a freak thing. It was traumatic," Dougherty said. "I saw it there on the porch, put the mail in the box and turned to walk away and it jumped on me." According to the AP, the crazy squirrel staged its attack after Dougherty turned her back and was walking away. It ran up her leg, onto her back and left a bunch of cuts and scratches before Dougherty could pull it off by grabbing its tail. The squirrel was killed with a BB gun and taken to a lab for a rabies test, said the AP. The letter carrier was given a precautionary first series of rabies shots. "In about 230 years of postal history, I bet it is not the first, but I've personally never heard of another squirrel biting," Steve Kochersperger, spokesman for the Erie district, was quoted as saying. weirdnews.about.com/od/animalabsurdity/a/badsquirrel.htm

I know. But highly aggressive animals who are normally quite docile usually DO have rabies. or are nuts. That was bizarre behavior from the squirrel.

Those were fun to look at, Moshev--except for the dead squirrel, that is. I have squirrels here that sunbathe on the deck railing and try to raid my bird feeder--so some of those shots looked familiar. Some of the body positions also reminded me of Fuzz--especially that one of the squirrel stretching toward the peanut. Thanks!

Dead squirrel? With the bottle of beer? Hmmm. I suppose. Fabulous photos, but the site needs thumbnails. My admiration to the photographers; that is a great job, and many I have saved. There are many other squirrel photos in this forum and the Relaxing Rodents forum.
