This morning. . . Sweetie didn't make it. Soon another keet will get rescued - and kept away from the others. Am I supposed to get mad at Felicity and Candy for doing this? I feel anger, but did I hate my cats for going after a mouse? It is what they do. The parakeet cage stays in the bathroom from now on, when I get a new one. DAMMIT!!

Can't tell if she is eating or drinking. A vet advised pureed Zupreme pellets, which I have done. She is in the bathroom, locked away. She is chirping normally, and I did not even notice this until maybe a day after it happened. But I will tonight start in gently with the eyedropper, and I will use a scale for weight. This should be manageable. Dammit. Some things you just do not expect.

Thought she was safe in her cage when Felicity the Lovebird and Candy the Quaker flew loose. Unfortunately, while I was away one of them reached in the cage through the bars and mangled and destroyed most of Sweetie's beak! I have asked vets for advice and am leaving soft food about, such as softened Zupreme pellets. She is locked in the bathroom now, with an extra lock on it! No one goes in there except me. We shall see. If I can't determine she is eating and drinking I will have to use an eye dropper. Hope the beak grows back. Always something.

Hanno the Spiny Mouse died this morning. On a happier note, here is the album from Green-Wood of their cherry blossoms. Lovely! LINK HERE!

He was quite old - easily five or more. This was fully expected. Hanno was my last Spiny, last of dozens. The search will continue for more. I now have only the feral mouse I rarely see, besides the rats, one of which has tumors (she is not even a year old). Next burial will be in October, I suppose. I wrote in another thread what happened to the last burial, despite me considerable efforts, although this had not happened in a decade, and happening almost half a year after the burial it is remarkable. But I shall redouble my efforts at protection. I will get some gerbs likely at Sean Casey Animal Rescue within a month.

Sad time with Pauline dying (as stated elsewhere on RR), and one of my rats has tumors - not even a year old. But, for nine straight days we had great weather, and I hiked over hill and dale, mile after mile, in all sorts of gardens in New York City, from the Bronx to Brooklyn. Good exercise, too. But backlogged in housework. BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDENGREENWOOD CEMETERY and George Catlin graveCatlin was the very famous painter of Native Americans, and this statue commemorates him. Many more photos on the links. The second photo is the Townsend Harris grave site. Townsend Harris founded City College in NYC, and was the first U.S. ambassador to Japan, played by John Wayne in the movie "The Barbarian and the Geisha". His grave in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn is very pretty. HARRIS GRAVEOther links with more photos already posted. Maybe more to come!

I checked the grave site two weeks ago and all was well. A few days ago I visited it again. . . and there was now a hole dug down and then dug AT AN ANGLE! It had to be at an angle as a very heavy stone was blocking the top; there were stones inside too, heavy ones. And yet a raccoon or such still got some, that after almost six months!! That is why I try hard to protect them, and will do even more next time. Six months!! I am amazed. I also mentioned in this forum and the Gerbil forum my last gerb, Pauline, passed away. I will get a new pair from a rescue group. I also expect Hanno, the very old spiny mouse, to die soon. Almost impossible to find spiny's, but I will keep trying. I did see a white ferret in a pet store this week - a customer brought him in, which he bought in Nassau County. They are illegal in NYC thanks to Giuliani. P.S. Hanno died on May 10th, soon after Pauline the gerbil. Hanno was my last spiny Mouse.

She was not young. it is a shame all the photos that were on Webshots are gone as that site is gone. I will try to get some up from Photobucket soon. I will also try to get a pair of gerbils from rescuers as I now have none, and Hanno the spiny mouse is VERY old and not well.

I am sorry to report Pauline died early this morning. I will try to get up new photos soon. The site the above ones were on no longer exists. I now have no gerbils, but will try to get a pair soon - rescues.

HA! I think I figured out why other img links were not showing up. I have to have those links ABOVE the page link! Now we know. The Quakers at top were way high up there. I needed a 30x lens. The landmark cemetery is happy to have them as their poop is harmless to the stone, unlike pigeon poop. And the Quakers keep away the pigeons! Since I am here, this is my old High School, Fort Hamilton, yesterday. The swimming pool is relatively new. The odd looking house is a landmark, the famous Gingerbread House. LINK HERE

I am beginning to think Candy the Quaker is overgrooming himself. He is separate from Felicity and what I see suggests it is not Felicity. At Green-Wood Cemetery yesterday I saw there many Quakers busy looking for food, flying around, grabbing sticks to build nests (they love the Mulberry trees nearby). Maybe Candy needs more attention and things to do. Will look at that option. Seems healthy, though.

LINK Right HERE!Perfect weather. The Yoshino cherry trees, and some magnolias! The former are hanging types with twisted trunks and they bloom early. Lovely place on Battle Hill. Love it. The main cherry trees come later. For whatever reason, Photobucket img links are not working. Saw some Quaker parakeets at Green-Wood where many live. Will post that link separately.
