For those of you that don't know after my beloved hamster died I am not getting another one. I cannot watch what the next one goes through if it was similar to Chewie's. Therefore all of us have finally decided to look for a dog. The best one for us would be a Cockapoo. I have researched this breed already and do have some sites written down, but was wondering if you could help me find some more sites. It can either be rescue groups or a breeder. And it has to be somewhere in the NJ or PA area. Thank you all for searching.

I sent you some already, including the name of a fellow in Parsippany who has one for adoption right now! Check your PMs. Oh. Since you likely deleted it already, I will resend it. He seems to have an annoying little kid who does not get along with the dog. I would not get along with the kid either. Warmest wishes in this sad time. As with all the pets and people I have lost, a hole inside you always remains, but in time it gets a little smaller and becomes covered in the bright happy memories of the good times together. That is how it is with me, even with my mom.

I checked the sites you provided right away but they weren't good enough, sorry. That is why I'm asking for other sites from everyone here.

So you did not call that guy in Parsippany, NJ?? I can't - no long distance! Never need it.
One of the sites had ways to contact other people and to network.
I just PM'd what I sent. . . PLUS a few other sites.
If you are looking for a site that simply lists available cockapoos it may be hard to find. You have to ask around, call, and inquire. Either that or do a tremendous amount of web searching and hope for pot luck. As I said in my PM, I have no time for reasons explained. Gotta go before the post office closes!! Good luck.

And www.petfinder.com of course. Endorsed by Mallory, my sister's Pointer mix, and my cousin's Golden Retriever. Cockapoos are lovely dogs. A close friend of mine had littermates, Penny and Clay. Each wore his/her namesake on his/her collar (Penny had a penny on it, and Clay had a piece of clay). Penny died during the summer; Clay is still hanging in there, as far as I know, but he is no doubt heartbroken.

ADULT COCKAPOOS in NJThat was just for adults, not seniors or younger ones. "Duffy" is in NJ. Wish I could rescue him. "Perfect" young animals are the ones least needing rescue. And avoid breeders. I see nothing but bad stories about them especially regarding mix breeds.

Yes Robin--thanks. I've been searching on petfinder and haven't come up with anything that looks cute, but I keep it posted just in case. I'm sorry about your friend's dog dying. I will check out those sites thank you and I know they are called designer dogs. If I can't find one to rescue, a breeder will be fine. I will research the breeder of course and then make our decision; besides I'd rather take one from a breeder than a pet store.

>> please do not tell me what to do <<
I was telling you the consensus all over about breeders of this kind of dog. And that consensus is very bad. Those breeders should not be encouraged and they are in it for money, and that does not even factor in health and genetic issues for the dogs.
I am now telling you I would never pay money to a breeder of "designer dogs" such as a cockapoo. In fact I doubt if I'd ever pay money to any breeder so long as millions of dogs need rescue and millions get put down every year. But that is just me.
What you chose to do is what you chose to do.

The kind of breeders you're thinking about are called "backyard" breeders or ones that come from puppy mills. The ones I have written down I have made sure they have done it for a long time and take great care in raising their litters. They all have passed, so don't be so hell bent on rescues, cause what you can't get there breeders will do just fine. And you weren't meant to see that line, I edited it out; but since you did see, you do need to cool it please.

I do remember once saying I might have gotten a Finnish Spitz, if my situation permitted it (and it does not). But I also said I would have simultaneously rescued a second dog.
But that is just me.
Maybe there is a responsible breeder around. How that can be verified would take major research from shelters, vets, on dog forums, consumer groups, government agencies, and contacting some people at such as the AKC which might know something, even though such a dog is not recognized as a breed. Maybe the best thing to do is try to find someone who does not have a website and just has an occasional litter and sells them at reasonable prices via recommendations, assuming that person also has references. *shrugs*. I'd rather rescue. But that is just me.

Of course one would rather rescue, but when you can't do that I'd rather take a respectable breeder than a pet store. I'm going to look up questions to ask the breeders and that way I'll be able to see if they really mean it or if they're just for the money.
Don't worry I'll be fine with that.

>> I'm going to look up questions to ask the breeders << Those are the people I would trust least with questions about what they do. I mentioned who should be asked, among others. I would have all my questions answered before I saw any breeder. And I would try a lot harder looking for rescues before any of it.

You and rescues. You're sounding as if I'm just blowing rescuing Cockapoos off and you're so far off, my friend. I am going to visit petfinder.com regularly. Also I have this thing where a warning light will go off telling me not to trust this person with this or that. If I get that whenever I ask the breeders questions I will know not to go to them. Most of them sounded just fine on their websites and two really sounded caring. Example: When people hear the words: Pit Bull, they get all sweaty and fearful before they even begin to understand that animal and are basing their opinions on what they hear. You're doing the same to these breeders. Just like we have to give the PB a chance, give them a chance too. You may find out you are wrong.
