I posted this in another forum, but I wanted to see what you guys think too.
I've noticed it just the past three days ago that Sophie's eye, her left eye, the fur around it looks darker and sometimes she has trouble opening it. She doesn't have any ooze in it. She's very good at letting me inspect it. It doesn't look like it hurts her & other then that she's doing well. The funny thing is, I only see it in the morning, at night...you would never know it b/c it looks normal. I'm just wondering if this is okay. We have a vet that is ten minutes away from us who treated our dwarves. My Mom thinks its just that she rubbed on some sharp bedding. I usually take out the sharp bedding I see, but is it always possible I missed a few. So what do you think is wrong? Do you think she's just rubbing on some sharp bedding? And why does it disappear in the night? Thanks guys! I don't want to be too panicy about this & find out it was nothing. But I'd better be safe then sorry with Sophie.

Prince, the Syrian, upon waking, almost always takes some time before his eyes fully open; the right one usually stays closed for awhile. When I was a kid the eyes sometimes stuck together! Scary! There is no redness or swelling or anything abnormal about prince or his eye. Some dwarfs I have take awhile for both eyes to open. If I wasn't so tired for attending the St Patrick's Day Parade here in NYC, and debating all the big baseball news on forums, I'd look for the photo of Prince. Maybe I will later. . . so much to do. Haven't you called your vet for advice? Good ones always return calls especially for regular patients.

Yeah, that's what Soph's eye looked like. Its gone now, her eye was fine this morning, but I'm still going to keep a watchful eye on her. What causes their eye to become like that?...do you know?
If I thought it was serious & I mean really serious, I would've called the vet before asking here or on another forum. I just didn't think it was that serious, so I asked you guys first. Thanks for helping me out!

There must be some secretion that came out in too great an amount, "gluing" the lids. Happened to me as a kid. I heard the eyelids near the lashes in humans produce a secretion; I have seen white stuff around there after not washinbg my face for a long time. Maybe it is similar with some hamsters.
Ask an opthalmologist next time you see one!
And I have to finish working on my St patrick's Day Parade pix.

BTW, what do you think of feeding refried beans from a can to gerbs and hams?? I am sitting here eating it and started wondering. . .

Oh okay.
Beans for hamsters...I don't know...I wouldn't try it if I were you. Maybe you can look in some hamster books to see what they say. I don't remember beans being in the list.

Too much garlic and onions in the refried beans. Maybe plain beans. . .
