One of my favorites, Ebony, has crossed the rainbow bridge entered the home of lovely memories: I found her dead last night. She didn't move for her food, nor when I blew air on her - I feared the worst. She was dead; had been for 12 hours or so, curled up in a sleeping position, peacefully. At least there was no discomfort for her. She, as you may recall, was the oldest hamster here, along with her brother Zeb, having been born as part of Rainy's litter of Jan.9th, 2003 - making her almost 29 months old. They are all gone now, all 12 (plus Rainy), except Zeb, who does not look good; Ebony looked fine. It is very depressing to think of the day I saw that surprise litter and went online for help. I daily watched each one grow - and finally die. Only Rainy and Makeeda had difficult deaths. That was good; no chronic illnesses. Zeb also outlives his two children by Makeeda, Stanley and Blanche, also long gone. All these births were the result of a pet shop pregnancy, or an escape; I never breed and no one should. So, Ebony passes into memory. She was a small, quiet, and calm hamster, and she meant a lot to me. Odd, how she still looked good up to a few days ago; Zeb meanwhile has dandruff issues (just dry skin). I posted their photos almost four months ago in the Showcase forum when they celebrated the Big Number Two: their second birthday. Here is her photo: All of her siblings, mom, nephew, and niece, can be found memorialized in this gallery: RIGHT HERE I will add Ebony to it very soon.

The only thing sadder than a memorial forum is not memorializing them at all, and not remembering.
I scoped out today the burial site. Everything is where I left it including the heavy stones. I just have to watch out for the cemetery patrol which might see some of me when digging; it is secluded but not totally. There are a few other possible locations, but I still think that is the best. Lucky are those with their own backyards. There is one for this apartment house, but it is hardly secluded, and I don't want anyone calling the police at 1 AM.
