Mithrandir was a cool, energetic, friendly dove-grey gerbil with dark red eyes. One of a litter of seven boys, he lived with five brothers until fracturing of the clan reduced his group first to five, then to four.
Mithrandir was a bouncy but steady pup, curious but content to be loved and to bask in human affection. When his brothers would shy away from my hand, he would lead the way and clamber up eagerly, showing them that there was nothing to fear about me, and much enjoyment to be had.
Mithrandir was a stabilizing force in his clan, a born leader. The others followed his lead more than not in all matters, and he was frequently the "king of the food dish," seating himself directly on top of the bowl at feeding time. Though he allowed the others to eat whatever they liked, it was clear that he took the choicest bits because he was there first every time.
Mithrandir is survived by older brothers Leto and Odin; older sisters Cara, Kara, Vale, and Cola; brother littermates Lear, Icarus, Phaethon, and Bacchus; uncle Dusty; and step-aunt Beck.
The sorrow of his absence is mitigated by the fullness of his life -- with no regrets, he lived each day an example of the finest traits of his species.
Mithrandir died apparently at rest Saturday night, just shy of his second birthday. I've been wondering how best to say I miss him, but I suppose I just did.

I'm so sorry about Mithrandir. May he rest in peace. I hope you're doing well too. Just wondering, but was Mithrandir's name from Lord of the Rings? Gandalf's other names?

Yes. He was a soft silver-grey color, and he reminded me much of an image I had of LOTR's Gandalf reading the books many years ago. I started calling him Myth (I like to have short names for the pets) before it became Mithrandir.

That was very nicely said, and very sad. So sorry. I have to post about some I have lost recently, such as Dill and Cliffy. I will soon.
