Miaka my foster hamster passed away today. She was quite old, and was dropped of in a box of 25 hamsters. Miaka enjoyed having the run of our living room, she enjoyed watching the bunnies, and sniffing the dog. One day while Miaka was out she slipped inside our leather couch, we ended up having to cut the bottom open to get her out LOL... what a learning experiance. We will miss you girl, you made a hamster liker out of a gerbil only girl like me

I am now hamsterless She was an old girl, and I noticed she was looking worse for wear these past few weeks. Whats really strange is I peeked in on her and thoyght "thats a weird way to sleep" ... then i opend the lid and saw blood. She was in her nest, but her nose had been bleeding and it was smeard, so she probably had some sort of attack ? Poor girl, I'm glad she got a lot of run around time upstairs before she went, and she had romaine everyday too.

The bleeding nose. . . long ago I posted a few photos (maybe you can Search for them) on this forum of some of Rainy's children (I kept an entire litter). Several of them died manifesting red liquid (maybe too light to be purely blood) around the nose. Some sort of lung hemmorage?? I don't know.
Yes, when we know our animals well any change in behavior is very noticeable.
Hope you can rescue a needy hamster sometime soon.
P.S. Don't giove a Syrian too much lettuce, even romaine, as it can cause the runs and has limited nutritional value.

What a lovely name, Miaka. RIP your hamster girl. Hope that, if you wish, you don't stay hamsterless for long.

I have allready said i can take in a Dwarf or two. But truth is I'm trying to cut down on the number of animals I have (naturally over time) as I like to travel and trying to get a sitter has become a real task, and Ryan and I are hoping to start our own human family in the next couple of years, so the less pets the better. The rabbits and Degus will be with me for another 5-10 years so I won't be totaly animal less Miaka got whatever veggies i was feeding bunnies that day, sometimes it was carrot, or parsley.
