Last night Magic passed away. It seems he had a major stroke this past weekend, he fought it for a couple days, but his body just wasn't as strong as his little gerbil soul. Magic came to me when a craigs list post was posted on the rescue board I volunteer for, my name in the attention line. A gerbil in my town needed help. Sad thing was i had met his owner before, had her over and she was very interested in gerbils. I no longer speak to that woman. Magic was bought from a pet shop as a lone gerbil. He lived in a hamster cage with a small wire wheel that was broken, and quite dangerous. He was tormented by a kitten and two small children day in and day out. When i took Magic home he was so afraid that he would freeze up, not even move. I had never seen a gerbil so terrified of everything. Magic improved, and though I tried bonding him with many other gerbils things just would never work out. I wonder now if the other gerbils knew he was sick. Magic came from being a scared little gerbil, to become a adventure seeker and living a happy life. Rest in Peace Magic, you no longer have to be afraid.

What a great life you gave him. So sorry at his passing. >> Rest in Peace Magic, you no longer have to be afraid. << I am sure he was not afraid of you. He looks like Sam, my greatest gerbil ever (see my Memorial Gallery in my signature). I lost a male rat a few days ago - a sudden respiratory infection perhaps started by a slight bite from a squabble with a brother. More on him later. I still have 16, down from 19, but the inevitable diminution has sadly begun. But how can I be sad? Why should I? I kept them from the snakes and gave them all safe respected lives.

What a great name, Magic! He certainly was "dressed" like a magician, in black and white.
RIP. Your fears are no more.
