There was a deer, the size of a fawn, at Paws Farm where I work. She's always been a bit sick and had seizures. She was the most friendly deer I've ever met, coming up to anyone and suckling on your finger, tasting the air it looked like. She had the sweetest of eyes and would follow you everywhere. Well today Sara, my boss, found her dead. She died sometime last night of, Sara thinks, another seizure. It was sad today and Sara cried. At least Violet is free and running around and playing in deer heaven. Rest well Violet for you will be missed. Love you girl, you were my favorite there.

Very sorry. Hugs to Sara. Did the vet ever say what was wrong? How old was she? Have a good photo?

She was a year old and the vet didn't think she would make it. Sara and Mike took care of her themselves. They fed her fruits, veggies, mashed deer food.

So she had some problem that could not be precisely diagnosed.
Great you gave her a good home.
We could still use a photo - and photos of Chewie.

I don't have a photo of Violet. She looks like a White-tail Deer but smaller, the size of a fawn.

Now we await photos of Chewie. RIP Violet. My new rescued hamster died yesterday; I am not surprised; he slept far too much. I will think of a name and bury and memorialize him with one. Later, in the Memorial forum.

I have had a hideous week. Today left me in shock. In addition to the other deaths, five of my eight finches died today. The other three seem alright. I have tetracycline in the water. I have no idea what is going on, and I await an e-mail from Susan, my rescue colleague. More in a separate thread as time permits.

Oh, my. . . . five all at once. . . . it almost seems like poisoning, but how would that happen? So you came home and there they were--gone?
Hideous sounds like an apt word.
Condolences. Hope the other finchys (my term of endearment for finch birds, both inside and outside types) make it.

The other four remain fine as of a minute ago. Why they are and those others - in the same big cage - were not remains a mystery. No one seems to know. I have not heard from Susan yet. Maybe she does not know either; maybe no one knows. I can speculate until hell freezes, but I know nothing. Maybe a finch expert can be found. . . This will be a thread in Other Pets (and the Memorial forum) when I get more information. Meanwhile, anyone know anyone in NYC wanting to unload some finches?? BTW, I actually had NINE finches - five dead and four left (three males). Kain lost all his hamsters once. I forget the details; some kind of poisoning. Maybe you can search for it if interested; the thread may still be up.

Thanks. The four remaining finches are fine and apparently normal as of right now. I await word from my rescue bird-expert friend. Oh yea, I lost a female spiny mouse a few hours ago; that is when I found her. She was part of a group of nine girls. When they were six they got moved into the tank topper I got when Susan moved in December of 2006. Now there are only three. When one more goes I will move them into a normal tank and move a larger group into the tank topper. Such is life. I once posted a classic photo on RR of that group of girls forming a pyramid of spiny mice! It is still up. shows you how tightly bonded they are. Hope the others are not too sad. More on all this in separate threads.
