Here is a theme - gerbils in a red pail. It is also a nice trick to get them to look up to the camera. The second quartet: Edan, Romulus, his brother Remus, and Petey, counterclockwise from the top where Edan is. The original Gang of Four: Phil. Tommy, Dill, and Cliffy their golden uncle, from top counterclockwise. Rudolf (on left) and Phoenix: Sam (on right) and Dave: Pearl (on left) and Penny: Chrissie (on bottom) and Crystal:

It's the only pail I had. My beach sand-digging days ended last year. But it does get them to look up.

I am surprised they did not make a mess of the pail -- mine get nervous and lose control in empty aquariums or buckets.

I am surprised they did not make a mess of the pail -- mine get nervous and lose control in empty aquariums or buckets. They are too old for that sort of thing, and been here too long. Most interesting is when you have four in the pail - and you stick a hand in there. It is a charming feeling: warmer than you might think with lots of moving soft fur. Kind of nice. Of this whole bunch Sam and Tommy and still the most calm and they love to climb on me; as I said, letting them run around on my bare back tickles outrageously well. And they don't make a mess there either!

They are all very cute. I love the black multi-colored ones. Do hamsters react the same way in a bucket?
