They look like neat little animals; if you didn't put Degu up there, the 2nd photo looks as if their chinchillas. I'm guessing their related.

In the second photo the one climbing up promptly shoved the other right off! Degus seem less polite than gerbs; gerbs would never have done that! Related?? I suppose; they are both from the Andean region of South America. Interesting that gerbils look so much similar being from the other side of the world; no, I believe the continents separated before they evolved. I think it just suggests that certain ancient rodent shapes "worked" so well they developed similar appearances over millions of years.

While they do look like gerbils, degus are considered cavy-like rodents, a family which also includes chinchillas, cane rats, viscachas, mara, coruro and even capybaras!

Yeah,they are cute, and the one at the top of the log in picture # 2 s ADORABLE. Looks exactly like a chinny!
