I see the photos are showing up. "Shedders"?? "Ferret kong"?? So she likes shakes the rattles and rings, and push around the balls and pull stuff out of them? I have wooden spoons and wooden chew thngs; she never gnawed at them once, but I'll leave them in just in case she needs to gnaw. Thanks for posting those. I may move that, or copy it, into the Care sticky thread. It is odd to see all the Easter bunnies (chocolate, ceramic, stuffed, marshamallow) in stores right now - and have a real bunny running around. She comes out of her cage in an hour or so, btw.

Ferret Kong.... www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=65&pf_id=2263Kongs are a big dog toy manufacturer...great dog toys. they are hollow and you can stuff food in them so the rabbit, dog, ferret has to get them out. made of durable chew stuff. Shedders.... www.24parrot.com/toyDetail/shredder/shredder.htmlMade for birds to shred but Astrid loves chewing on it and flinging it around..carrying it place to place. Also on the subject of play...it really took some time for Astrid to start to play. Everyday we see her playing a little more. something she loves to play is the "getaway" game...she'll try to get behind someting she isn't supposed to and we'll tell her no, and she'll run away but as soon as our eyes are someplace else she'll try again...does this repeatedly and i can see the laughter in her eyes. by the way i showed the old baskeet and the new so you could see what she does to them

So how long a lifespan do the chew toys have?

good question Calvinator....well mostly everything she has i got within the first days of getting her and i have not had to replace anything yet. If she had less i think maybe they would be getting worn more ya know? the baskets on the other hand last about a month.

You know, now that you mentioned it, there seems to be some method to Poppy's explorations; I get the feeling she likes to sneak up on me, but then as I turn around to greet or pet her she takes off - should I follow (as if a game) or would that scare her? It is getting intriguing trying to figure her out.

I play a similar game with Ty. I usually follow him for a few small, shuffling steps, and he'll disappear under a piece of furniture or such. Then when I walk off, he'll sneak out and try to catch me off guard again. It sounds like Poppy may be playing the same game.

Ah, you have a rabbit! Yes, there seems to be a purpose to what she does; it is not just random. I suppose I'll follow her next times and see what happens. Poppy has settled into a routine here: she comes out for a while when I get home, but is ready to go back in the cage after a bit; no more four hour vanishing acts, especially as I blocked off that "warren".

Actually, Ty is a kitten but the game sounds exactly like the one he likes to play.

DF, Either Poppy is comfortable enough with you and this is a game. Or Poppy is still a little uneasy and is running from you. It does sound more like a game but you never know in a bunbun head. They can be so much different than a cat or a dog, both cats and dogs by nature are predatory; wheras a bunbun is by nature prey. A lot of what rabbits do still shows that "I'm prey" instinct, why the majority of rabbits don't like to be held, why most rabbits are skittish (yes I know there are dogs and cats like this too, most of them have been "taught" to be skittish). I would say follow her and see where it goes. Cognac

I'll follow her, but where she goes is too small for me to follow!
I always try not to scare or startle her.
