I just caught a bunny outside, I am so ticked someone just let this poor little lop cross go! Anyways he/she has car oil on her, as she was under an old car (i've covered in oil too). What can I do to remove the oil without stressing the poor thing more? Right now he/she is in a extra rabbit cage I have with fresh food, greens and water. I've leaving her be, it's been a stressful afternoon for the poor thing. Anyways guide me to how to sex a rabbit?

I really don't know how to sex a rabbit, sorry. This website was kinda weird to read to say the least. But here's a website for sexing rabbits: www.debmark.com/rabbits/sexing.htmBut you could try getting the oil off with dawn soap. I've heard that's what the rescuers used when the Exxon Valdez oil tanker spilled in Prince William Sound, Alaska. You can also try this: www.afsc.noaa.gov/abl/OilSpill/chenega.htmI know it takes hours to wash them off & clean them. Good job for rescuing the rabbit! I hope this helps you.

Yikes, I think I may need someone with experiacne to help me with teh sexing, their 'parts' all look the same LOL... My fear is that bathing the bunny would cause more stress. I've read bunnies + Baths are not a good thing, But I'm waiting to hear more word on this, as maybe this is more of a situation it is needed. Thank you for the links! very helpful My Hubby is not impressed with me right now LOL... i'm sure once he see's teh bun he will feel bad for her too, and not be as mad LOL

You're welcome & yeah that's what I meant by "very weird" website. You could ask DF about the sexing, he's the only one I know who has a rabbit here. I'm not sure how to get the oil off if you don't bathe the rabbit. Maybe you could gently rub soap on him and then put a wash rag on top of him and move it slowly and smoothly, but don't put him in the bath tub. Perhaps that will help?

he's cute - possibly somebody's Easter pet that got tossed once the thrill went away - it happens all the time. His meal looks quite tasty!

Go to the Animal Rescue forum and bring up the Sean Casey Animal Rescue group. Write to them: nyanimalrescue@yahoo.com. Tell them I sent you.

A lady in my reascue group gave me a number to a great Vet, i called her and she was so helpful. She said I can wash the bunny in mild warm water with dish soap (as we have all guessed ) then dry her very well and blow dry her so not to catch a chill. She also explained how I can sex them, so i will do a practice sex on Jack my male to get a better idea of what a boy looks like and them compair from there. I posted my message on a couple forums, and some guy told me to clean it up and release it! WTH release a domestic bunny back into the wilds of my farming comunity where it WILL get killed. Ya that seems right.... argh, some people.

I used to do volunteer work at a wild bird rescue facility that has an internationally known oil response team. Dawn is what they swore by to wash oiled waterfowl.

I was going to suggest Dawn. I'm not sure about the US, but here in Canada, we have the CUTEST Dawn commercial of an oiled duck rescue (simulated for the commercial), where they use Dawn because it is so gentle and removes oil very very well. They bathe the oiled duck in warm soapy water, bottle of Dawn easily visible (product placement!), rinse her off and dry her a bit, and then release her back into the wetlands. So heartwarming Are you planning on keeping the bunny Andrea? Or just a foster for now?
