When my sister Michele was in college she owned a cute white lop named Sherwood (male name, but female bunny!). She adored her to death. I wish I had a way of showing you all this adorable picture I have of Sherwood lying on Shel's physics book. . . . anyway, Shel was away and my brother was taking care of her. He put her in the bathtub, where she promptly went about eating the shower curtain. Within a few days Michele and I were at the 24-hour vet, being told that Sherwood had a bolus in her intestine and should be put to sleep. . . . oh, was that ever a horrible night. . . So my question is: I hear you bunny owners saying, "my bunny chewed this" and "my bunny chewed that." Does this stuff pretty much go right through them, or do bunnies die often from ingesting what they chew? RIP Sherwood

So far i've bene very luck with it just going through them. But i think it has alot to do with the material chewed and whether or not the rabbit actually injests what they chew, some just chew it to bits and don't actually eat any of it. Also if the rabbit has allready issues like not getting enough fiber and has a small blockages of hair, eating something not digestable can make the problem worsen. So it's important to keep out little bun's away from so many things, and supervise them in un-bunny proofed areas, and of course make sure to give them lots of fiber and/or digestion aids if they are predisposed to GI problems. I'm sorry to hear your sister lost her rabbit that way, it's very sad

My rabbit, Poppy (female name but male bunny - long story I already posted), never chews anything. When out loose he might gnaw some pants leg a little if hanging down over a chair, but he didn't even seem to eat it. Never had a problem; sorry you did.

That night is one that I'll remember forever, just because the situation was so sad (and avoidable), and Shel was so hysterical. Plus I was driving at 2 am from Delaware to a part of suburban Philadelphia (where the vet was) that I knew nothing about. And: we went in with a bun and left without one. I cried a lot that night too. Thanks for your replies.
