Well I've heard somewhere in some states the racing is banned.
Yes, I've heard that too. Once at the kennel I used to work at, we saw lots of Greyhounds. And one time, my friend & I were wondering if this Greyhound we had out in the play yard was a rescue. And the guy there lifted the dog's ear & you could clearly see the number in its ear like someone branded it there. It was sad, but also good that the dog had a good home now. Ever see that?

Never seen tatooed dog ears, but then I have never looked for them. Did a few times see tatoos on people (concentration camp survivors). Many animals now are getting computer chips under their skin for ID purposes.

I think my favorite dogs are mutts, that's what I currently have, she is a husky/lab cross. Just the sweetest thing. My best friend doesn't mind if I bring her to her house, even though she has two dogs of her own. Daisy can take a lot of ear/tail pulling, stuff like that. I perfer retreiver crosses over most others. I like most breeds, I dislike teh majority of small breeds. For my second breed some I wouldn't mind having: St. Bernard, Newfie, Toller (if you couldn't tell), Greater Swiss Mt. Dog, Bernese Mt. Dog, Chesapeake Bay Ret., Flat Coat Ret., Bloodhound, Bassett Hound, Cattahoula Hound, or a Blue Tick Bassett (Bleu petit Gascon or sometihing similar is the real name).

Aww...Daisy sounds cute!
Wow, those are cool breeds! I've seen all but two you named in the kennel I used to work for. Wow, that is so cool that you would like a Blue Tick Bassett (Bleu petit Gascon). I think you got their name right; I've never heard of anyone naming that breed before.
Some small dogs are cute like the Poms, Paps...and why isn't my brain thinking of anymore?
Do you guys like any rare types of dogs even, though you, Cognac, already named one?

>>Blue Tick Bassett << ??
Don't know it and it is not an AKC breed. But I have seen it mentioned here and there.
I suppose if I had to pick a rare breed I like it would be Samoyeds; Norwegian elk hounds; Irish setter (not rare, of course); Irish Wolfhound;
Great Danes are wonderful but huge, obviously, and they eat a ton. Boxers are nice, too.

No, of course they wouldn't be recognized, they're too rare. Okay, I have a dog book in my hands, lets see if I can locate the breed. Here it is (I'm pretty sure): Petit Bleu de Gascogne; pretty breed. I hope you don't mind but I just burst out laughing DF; those aren't rare breeds; that was so, I guess kinda, cute & funny at the same time. I guess to you they are, I'm sorry, please forgive me.... The dogs you picked are cute though. You do know right, that Irish Wolfhounds are taller then the Great Dane, you like some big dogs.

They are rare enough as I have never laid eyes on a Samoyed, Norwegian elk hound, or Irish Wolf Hound other than the St Patrick's Day Parade: If they are not rare to you, OK. The others I listed separate, and I said the Irish Setter wasn't rare.

I think my favorite rare breed is the Karelien Bear Dog. That other dog is Basset Bleu Gascogne (the other one is the "miniature" Blue Tick Hound). My Daisy looks like the Karelian Bear dog (if you can find a picture), Daisy has lab ears and more of a lab face. Cognac

Wow, that's cool Cognac! Yes, I've seen the Karelian Bear Dog in books before.
Sorry DF...I shouldn't of posted that. It was kinda meant for as a joke, I should've put j/k afterwards.

Has anyone seen a Norwegian Elk Hound, a Samoyed, or an irish Wolf Hound on the street??
I think I saw a Great Dane once as I walked past him. Impressive dog. Too bad they live shorter lives than most dogs.

I have seen all but the Elkhound. Irish Wolfhounds are sweeties, docile, and just easygoing. Samoyeds are kinda rambuncious (sp), high strung there we go. A lot having to do with a dogs life span is it's nutrition, if a dog is put on high quality food they live longer healthy lives, assuming they have no congenital diseases. On a higher quality of food the Great Dane can live just as long as any other dog. Cognac

Yes, I've seen a lot of them in the kennel I used to work in and when we would go on vacations. The Irish Wolfhound is tall, I mean I knew he was the tallest dog in the world, but I didn't think he'd be higher then my waist! (I'm 5'6ft).

Oh. I thought the Great Dane lived a shorter life owing to his size, not diet.

I think that is the blame, when it really happens to be genetics or poor food which most aren't informed about. The majority of vets aren't any more informed than the owners. When you have a vet saying that Science Diet, Iams, and Purina One are healthy foods, it's shows they aren't informed any better than the public. Granted a miniature poodle will most likely have a longer life than a Great Dane, but it should also out live a lab as well. In Germany due to the higher quality diet most feed thier dogs, the Dane's life span is 12 - 14 years. In the same vain, humans, who eat at McDonalds morning, noon, and night, can't expect to live to a hundred. Cognac

Interesting. Thanks for the info.
If I ever do get a dog it will be people like you I'd need to consult for the completely accurate story about care.
