Gawky might be the word, with a touch of the prehistoric. . . . I have seen and fed many baby birds in my time, and well, not all of them are cute! Baby cardinals are pretty ugly, actually, with their big googly eye sockets. And they never shut up! Chickadees, on the other hand, look good almost from the start. But your youngster will grow up to be a lovely bird with an impressive intellect, so who cares what he/she looks like now?

What a Cute Thing, I love Ugly baby's. The lady I work for on Thursdays and Fridays has a Timneh, She called him Yoko. He's really sweet, When his owner walks past his cage he will always say: Hi Sweetheart(in dutch). and when the poodles come in the house he will bark just like one of the poodles always does. when we talk about him in the kitchen he'll stop talking so he can listen to us. When you touch him he'll bite and start screaming, he's afraid. I Always loved Congo's&Timneh, but I don't think I can make a parrot happy. I don't have time enough for a parrot.
Do you know what kind this little one is?

We had a thread in the Hamster forum about hairless hams, and I think we had one in the GP forum, also.
Do a search for "hairless", if interested.
My rats when new born babies were RED; they only became pinkies a few days later.

The african Gray has Subspecies; The Timneh And the Congo The Congo is the average bird you see, It's the big one. They are plain grey with a Bright red tail, they have a black beak. The Timneh is a smaller version. He's dark Grey, with a dark maroon-colored tail, the upper mandible is horn color.

There are other babies on either side, but they were sleeping. All have to be hand fed liquid mix stuff with a syringe.
They get VERY loud and mad when they are being weaned off that stuff and have to eat regular food themselves!

Subspecies
There are two subspecies:
* Congo African Grey parrot, Psittacus erithacus erithacus - these are larger birds (about 12 inches/30cm long) with light grey feathers, cherry red tails and black beaks. A Congo is often called a "CAG". * Timneh African Grey parrot, Psittacus erithacus timneh - these are smaller in size, have a darker charcoal gray coloring, a darker maroon tail, and a light, horn coloured upper mandible. A Timneh is often called a "TAG".
Some avian enthusiasts (incorrectly) recognize a third subspecies, Ghana African Grey (Psittacus erithacus princeps). This bird is described to be similar to the Congo African greys, but darker and slightly smaller; however, scientifically this subspecies has not been found to be recognizable. Among breeders, there is said to be a fourth subspecies, the Cameroon African Grey, most often referred to as the big silvers.
If you like birds, see the thread in this forum, "DF Battles a caique"!

My favorite is the Congo, I love big birds. You can also find the Congo as an Albino, very pretty.
I think the baby on the Photo is a Congo, but I'm no expert.

If you love big birds check out the threads on macaws on this site, with photos. Such as "Macaws in a restaurant", in this forum. Those blue ones are the biggest macaws. Hope you saw the thread on caiques, also.
OOPS! I have to replace the photos in that macaw thread. When I do I will bump it to the top. So check it out then.
