They're not really pets, but I want to show them anyway... These are a few of the horses I work with, In about 3 weeks I have to miss them because then my school year is over, and also my work over there Let's Begin: This Beautiful Lady is Lillian, A Black russian-arabian mare. She's 18 years old, But you can't see that. She's My favorite. Lily has a Dust-'allergy'. The Next lady is Terciera, She's a chestnut lady. Last month she became 11. Ciera is really smart, She acts as if she's cripple when you want to ride her Terciera is the largest horse we have. Next up is Veruska. she's the half-sister of Terciera, They have the same dad. Veruska's mother is also Terciera's Sister. Veruska is a 9 year old gray mare. img168.imageshack.us/img168/5708/veruskahoofdlw5.jpg[/img]And last, but not least: Charoon. This is the oldest lady with 27 years. She's Veruska's Mother. Charoon had her last baby almost 3 years ago. I'll post some pictures of him later on. Last week our first baby of the year was born, Also a mare. It looks as if she will be Dark-bay colored. Her name is Elunah. For more pictures, and the other horses this is the website: www.demonpelou.nl

I consider horses pets and those are very pretty horses! Their names are nice too (even if I can't pounce them properly, lol). You said Terciera is your largest horse, how high is she? Since you know more about horses than I do, what's it mean when someone says, "Oh this horse is 18hh." What is a hands high anyway, in feet or something? Thanks.

@hamster82: The highest point on the back of a horse we call the withers, it's the point above and between the shoulderblades. Hands is a measurement unit. a hand is about 4 inches or 10.16 cm. So when a horse is 18 another forum it means the horse is 182.88 cm or 72 inches from the ground to the top of the withers. Terciera is aprox. 151 cm high. So she isn't even that big, but for an arabian she is because an Arabian is between 14.1 another forum and 15.1 another forum/143.256 cm and 153.416 cm

Beautiful photos of beautiful horses.
How are they handling getting older? Any problems? Is 27 really old? She doesn't look it!
What kind of treats do they get?
Can you say something about horse genetics in terms of what colors (of siblings) are possible to get from a certain color mother and father? Don't have to be too detailed.

@df: About genetics, you can say what color CAN come out of one horse, but it's always a surprise. I'll tell you about Charoon's baby's: Veruska is a Grey, but her dad is Bay-colored, there are 2 full-blooded siblings of Veruska in our stables: A mare:Abbayya & a stallion: Baruch. Well baruch is just like his dad a bay, but Abba is a Chestnut-colored So you see, It's really different. one time the mother's color wins and the other time the dad's color About getting older: Charoon has allot of time 'Spongy foot' I think you'll call it. That's a hoof disease, It's caused by wet straw/land but older animals get it sooner than the young ones. Sometimes she's cripple. Well Lilian is getting older now and she has allot of problems with dust. But the 2 old lady's still stand strong, Charoon is the boss of the mares and Lilian is one of her best friends. When it's a rainy day and they can't go on the land we sometimes let the 2 lady's walk in the paddock. And then they run!! It's nice to see these 2 old lady's showing what they got. Charoon always runs from side to side and then stands in a corner blowing out air trough her nose, It's a very funny sound and see looks very strong at that point. And lilian always walks half beside and half behind charoon just as baby's do

Thanks.
Speaking of genetic surprises, I once had a Syrian hamster escape and get in with a relation. Two very dark brown hams produced one jet black and one pure white hamster (no other babies). They were named Stanley and Blanche. But lived too short a life owing to he genetics, perhaps. (Photos of them are on this forum).

Lillian is a beauty!
As a girl I was nuts about horses. I can't remember the author of the books I read again and again, but they were called "Misty of Chincoteague," "Stormy, Misty's Foal," "Black Gold," and others. I was kicked by a friend's pony when I was in fourth grade, but that didn't scare me. I haven't ridden too much in my life, but I like to. The most memorable time was riding mules through Colorado's Gunnison Forest as the aspens were turning yellow in the fall.

A friend of mine was kicked in the face as a child by her pet horse. Just recently she had major septum and sinus surgery as she kept getting severe sinus infections as they did not drain. For two weeks she looked like she was hit by a baseball bat, and it was very painful.

I loved to go horseback riding but this one day I didn't get the horse I normally rode on. I got a different one and when my instructor walked away to talk to another rider, I felt Irony going faster. So what does stupid me do? Instead of saying, "Whoa". I jump off the horse and scratch my hands. Yup...but like that old saying goes: You have to get back on the horse and try again. But after that day I didn't ride Irony again. I went back with my favorite Quarter horse there, Johnny.

Something ironic about that.
