Howdy Folks!!
September & October are Street Festival and Feast time in NYC!!
This is a great opportunity to do some major good & increase your sales at the same time!
There will be booths giving away baby iguanas as prizes at these events courtesy of a loophole in the NYC iguana restriction law, but give literally no care info on the poor things! If you could have a basic are sheet to give out at your store, it would give these hundreds of little green guys a chance at least. Here's a good FREE one from the Green Iguana Society: www.greenigsociety.org/handouts.htm
Make sure you have the basics well-stocked at your store - mainly cage carpet, spray mister bottles, a good baby iguana pellet diet, T-Rex SuperFoods supplement in Juvenile Iguana (VGF) formula, silk plant vines and/or flexi-branches/vines, heat bulbs and fixtures (lots of 60W), UVB lights (a must for success with these lizards) and my favorite habitat for the hatchlings is a 2- or 3-level My First Home for Hamsters by Superpet (leaving out the wheel) - the bar spacing is safe for baby iggys and the shelves can be used as basking platforms, no loose substrate please, use cage carpet. 10-gallon tanks & screen tops are standard fare as well, and you should be selling TWO 10-G cage carpets with every tank - one for use while the other is cleaned.
If your Central Rep gave you the Sept RAM yet, you can read my baby iguana article (inspired by the Sept NYC street fairs situation!), which also may be helpful. (Also viewable at http://www.centralpet.com)
You can also have the contact information for Sean Casey Animal Rescue available for those who decide that this new iguana is not the pet for them. They will rehome it for free, and can also help with some medical issues. Most readily reachable via e-mail, but I will include the phone as well.
Sean Casey Animal Rescue: nyanimalrescue@yahoo.com, (917)734-0442.
Please drop me a line if you have any questions!!
(Or if if you just want to say HI!)
